My husband, daughters (ages 12 and 14), and I are planning to do a resort-only stay for two nights after we finish a cruise in June. We’d like to try a resort where we haven’t previously stayed. We are looking at BRV, BCV, CCR, and SSR. As it would be hard to get a studio at BCV, is it worth the extra points to stay in a 1 bedroom?

Disclaimer: Once you stay in a 1 bedroom, you wish you could always stay in a 1 bedroom.
(remember that BLT and Kidani 1 - bedrooms have 2 washrooms whereas BCV has one.... though still wonderful to stay in a 1 bedroom (I own at BCV).

SSR is walkable to Disney Springs. It's one of our favorite non-park stays.

Even when it's just DH and I, I insist on 1 br. Can't imagine a studio with 4.

So we did a night before a cruise once and stayed at Copper Creek. That was when they had the pay add on club level at Reunion Station so we booked that. LOVED it! They don't have that pay for club level thing anymore but they have the lovely Geyser Point Grill. For 2 days, though, you might be bored. But CCV and BRV would be nice a relaxing if you're cool with minimal stuff to do.

Another time, years ago, we did a trip to Hilton Head and could only get like 4 nights so I added 3 at OKW. I wanted near Disney Springs (was Downtown Disney then) for places to eat and shop since we didn't have park tickets. Kids were little so we rented a tandem bike thing. Did the pool. Did TRex at Downtown. And did Ohana I do believe. We also chose OKW because we didn't want to see the parks and miss not being able to go in. Now, though, we'd 100% choose SSR as we LOVE their rooms now with the murphy beds and being able to walk to DS. Love it!!

We live in FL now but still have DVC so we book 1 night a month pretty much. So we can drink and not drive home after. We have an AP but are only really interested in Epcot for festivals/concerts or DS for eating and drinks. We are empty nest. But we live 12 mins from AKV and we try to book club level there whenever a night pops up. Then we look to book SSR for the stuff at DS. I also, especially since most of our points are BWV, will book BWV then BCV or RR to be close to Epcot.

But if we didn't have park pass/tix and were doing pre or post cruise, like you, I'd select place with stuff to occupy and places to get drinks. Plus not being able to see or hear parks, so to speak. AKV has animal viewing, great pools, lots of places to eat and drink. Then SSR and OKW with being at DS. If you don't mind being close to MK, Poly studios are nice and spacious for a fam of 4 and they have lots of good food and drinks and a great pool plus you can watch fireworks. I'd likely do SSR though.

Of those, normally I would say BCV. You have the Boardwalk and all it has to offer right beside it and the best pool on property.

However you said … June.

I haven’t been to Disney during the summer but expect that pool to be crowded and the walk to boardwalk to be hot.

Probably SSR.

I'd say CC. Someone mentioned Geyser Point, a plus. The pools aren't fancy, but they serve the purpose.

The lodge is beautiful and you could do some activities over at Fort Wilderness.

Take a boat to MK and then monorail or ferry over to the other resorts.

Geyser Point has terrific food in a relaxing atmosphere. Not great in chilly/rainy weather even though it has a canopy but open-air enjoyable other times. A marvelous view of MK fireworks from there.

Personally, I think the CCV floorplans awkward due to those being converted hotel rooms. I'd easily give the edge to BRV for that reason. And since the BRV refurb is finally underway, probably done by your trip, no question I'd book there. Peaceful, quiet. Too much noise from WCC if you've a CCV near the lobby.

We really enjoy the boat from WL to MK, but with teens who may be in the get-there-yesterday mood, the WL buses are some of the best on-site, IMO. And that's from the perspective of my hubby using a powerchair. We rarely get the stinkeye from other guests waiting when riding the WL bus. Maybe people are more mellow in November when we usually go? Anyway, we've had better bus service from there than any other resort.

One slight drawback if your family enjoys shopping is that there's only one gift shop. I'm probably spoiled by the several at our home, VGF, but nevertheless think a resort with two villa associations ought to have a gift shop for each at least.

Outside of that, CCV/BRV offer relaxation and a sublimely peaceful atmosphere. And yes, you will be addicted once you've stayed in a 1br. BEWARE the 1br lure! 😄 Enjoy wherever you choose!

I would do one of the AKL resorts, there is lots to see and do at the resort itself, without the kids looking at a theme park and wishing they could enter. My home is BR and that is my favorite though.

We had our first DVC stay last month. It was a short turn around from closing on our contract to our travel dates. I was able to get a split stay starting in Animal Kingdom Lodge for two nights then the rest at Grand Floridian.

The Animal kingdom room was 1 bedroom. So I just booked our stay for next year at our home resort, BCV, it is a 1 bedroom.

So many perspectives! Think about what you would do if you don’t visit parks? Boardwalk has lots happening there and (I think) you could jump on the Skyliner and travel to other resorts - your kids may enjoy checking out the Animated resorts. If you stay at a monorail resort you could jump over to BLT and go to the DVC lounge to watch the fireworks - I just did that a couple of weeks ago and it was great! Staying at SSP or OKW you could walk or boat over to DS. Maybe put together a scavenger hunt for the kids and make a day of it?

I think it just goes to personal preference. But with not park in mind,
I would probably do SSR because of Disney Springs.
As for 1 bedrooms. We almost always get them as long as they are available.
And it is just the two of us. Once you do the 1 bedrooms, its hard not to have them.
It truly gives that at home feel

I totally think BCV one bedroom would be worth it, if you can get it. I love SAB. I would even go for the two bedroom!

Thank you all for the responses! Great things to consider. One of the best things about DVC is that I know I’ll be able to try each option at some point.
