Which DS game for an 8 yo girl???

We will be going to my niece's 8th birthday party. I would like to get her a game for her DS, but I am clueless.

Anyone have a girl around this age...what games do they like? If there are any new ones, that would be great (because then she probably won't already have it).

Both of my girls (7 & 9) love all the cooking mama's. The oldest likes the newest version. My oldest also loves Mario brothers. Sponge Bob drawn to life is another one. We have so many games that I am drawing a blank.

Alison likes the Cooking Mama games a lot, too. She and her friends also like Sims Racing, but it doesn't have a new version.

We typically find "TV" or "movie" based games to be poorly made, but if she is into Camp Rock or Phineas and Ferb, both have really new DS games out.

If she likes Tinker Bell, there is a brand new Tinker Bell game to coincide with the movie release tomorrow - Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. DD7 has the first two Tink games and likes them both a lot, and DD11 has been known to play them when she thinks no one is watching.

Both DD's also like Nintendogs and all of the Mario titles.

Even with my own kids (and DH too ), I stick with gift cards to Game Stop. Their interests and what they say they like change on a regular basis, and that way they are the ones choosing the game. They are also learning that they can often get two used games for the price of one new one, so they get more for the $ . They can also order online if there are no stores nearby.

I started doing this after both my SIL and I gave DS games we thought he would like, but they just sit in the case and are never played.

My dd, who will be 9 on Thursday, really likes the Professor Layton games. Lots of fun and challenging puzzles on those. And there is a new one out. Her other favorite game is Animal Crossing. I think she plays that one the most.

Not a new game, but my DDs love Animal Crossing. I would probably get her a gift card though - it would be easier for her to pick her own!

I have two DDs, 7 and 11, and the games they like the most are the new Lego Harry Potter game, Zhu Zhu Pets, Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. Hope that helps!!

My newly 9yo dd likes the Cooking Mama games but also (this is from dd) Hello Kitty, Avatar, and Tinkerbell (she has an older one).
