Which dryer should I buy?

Our dryer just went out.

So its time for a new one. I have no idea what to get. I am trying to be budget conscious, as we just got a new car 2 weeks ago.

What brand/model do you guys recommend?

Also, should I just get the washer at the same time? Or wait until it goes out?

I'd just look on craigslist and buy a used one.

Or actually...there aren't that many parts that go wrong in a dryer. Might not be too much to fix it.

Check out repairclinic.com. You may be able to fix it yourself. I fixed mine a couple of times (replaced the heating element and then the thermostat) before it has a problem that was too much trouble to fix. At that point we broke down and bought a new dryer. Of course with planned obsolescence the washer quit two months later. We went with Whirlpool, standard top load design.

My dryer went out 12 years ago and I thought of getting a new set, but decided on just the dryer and got one to match for $200.00. My original washer is still going strong! I know I will need a new set soon though.
