Which DLR Restaurants enforce kids meal policy or accommodate picky eaters?

Hello Disneyland Experts,

I'm looking for some information on Disneyland Resort Area restaurants.

Which Disneyland Resort Restaurants enforce the kids meal policy (only kids aged 3-9 may order a kids meal)? Which TS restaurants would allow modifications to accommodate my son who is very sensitive to spices?

I'm traveling to DLR in September 2015 with my 12-yr-old DS, who is very sensitive to spices, making him a "picky eater". Can we (for example) order the Kid's chicken leg dinner meal at the Plaza Inn?

I would love to sign up for both a World of Color and Fantasmic dining package, but the Prix Fixe menus are spiced for gourmet palates or their kids menu is more appealing. Any idea if we can order something off the menu and ask for a plainer preparation (no sauce, no garnish, different vegetable)? and I'm guessing a 12-yr-old pays the adult Prix fixe menu price no matter what ordered.

Thank you in advance!
Alicia

The TS policy in the parks is usually that he can order off the kids' menu, and they'll do twice the portion for twice the price. DTD and other area restaurants will have their own policies. Plaza Inn is CS for lunch and dinner. I know for CS kids meals like at Flo's you can't substitute sides anymore, but you can buy an additional side a la carte. It may be the same at Plaza Inn, I haven't tried. For the prix fixe I *think* I remember reading that they let someone's teen order off the kid's menu and pay the adult price but didn't double the portion. Hopefully someone has some experience there to share. But, you could always do regular FP instead.

At the CS locations you can purchase a kids meal for an adult if you want. I've done this for myself on occasions when I just want a smaller meal. As for the sit down restaurants I don't have any experience with that.

I have a 19-year old with Asperger's and food texture issues, and a 16-year old who's just picky for no reason (although he's slowly expanding his palate). Before each trip, I read all of the menus since they sometimes change. Then I make a list of places where I know we can all find something to eat. You can buy as many kid's meals as you want at CS places. One thing I have found is that they will not sell an "adult" portion of kid's meals, like chicken nuggets. I end up buying two meals and a large soda, since the kids meals come with little tiny drinks. We get the small bottles of water for the drinks that come with the meals and I keep them in my bag for later. DS can polish off both kiddie portions and we all get to read the fun stuff on the little boxes they come in!

For table service places, I look for ways to modify meals. He likes bacon and wheat bread, so I'll sometimes get him a BLT with the B only (I know, real healthy but it's vacation!). He also like chips and salsa and we can usually get that if a place serves nachos. He's much better when it comes to breakfast foods so if we want a sit-down one day, we choose breakfast. Carnation Café was perfect on my birthday last year since they had Mickey waffles and bacon. Otherwise, I look for places with a variety, like EPSN Zone. We tend to skip the gourmet places, but it's easier on the wallet as well. Our boys will be 20 and 16 when we go next month. We're talking about setting them up with a CS meal and instructions on where to meet us while we try something new. :sunny:

I've been able to get Kids Meals at most places in Disneyland and I haven't been kid menu age in over a decade, I just explain to them that I can't finish a huge portion of food so the small kids portions are more economical for me and I'm also a very plain eater and a lot of the kids menu options are things I enjoy eating (like their mac and cheese lol) I have been able to get the kids menu at the fancier restaurants.

I was able to get the child's menu at Blue Bayou.

We have a picky 12 year old. For our Fantasmic Prix Fixe Dinner in April at RBT, he ordered the NY Strip and they were happy to accommodate a "no sauce" order for him. He loved the rolls there and they kept refilling the basket so between that and the meat, he was plenty full. Hope that helps. They did let my 10 year old order off the kids menu there, but 12 might be stretching it a bit too far.
