I just found out today that the weekend before our daughter checks in on Monday the 9th...is Marathon Weekend at Disney. We are eligible to stay at Shades of Green, but they don't have that weekend available. I have not checked the Disney resorts or DVC. I would like to know where this place is... that the CP students check in at and if it is more convenient to stay in a certain area if we stay on property or off. Thanks!!!

The closest area would be at Downtown Disney so any of the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. They check-in at one of the apartment complexes which is located off Disney property. Most CP's and CP families stay at non-Disney resorts before check-in, or at least that's what I've seen from my experiences. There is no transportation from the Disney hotels to the check-in location so you must rent a car or take a taxi

I wonder if Buena Vista Suites is close enough. We stayed one night and it was pretty close to DTD.

It's close.

We just stayed at All Stars and hopped on the interstate - its really not far at all so anywhere you want to stay is fine...well not by the airport or downtown Orlando but the Disney area hotels are all close enough that it isn't that big of a deal in my mind.

Here's the address for vista way.

Vista Way Apartments. 13501 Meadow Creek Dr, Orlando, FL 32821

It's actually before Buena Vista suites and Caribe Royale in proximity to disney. If you are heading out of DTD on Hotel plaza blvd, make a rt on 535. Meadow Creek Dr will come up on the right in less than a mile. As soon as you drive under the I-4 overpass, you will then go straight thru the light for the I-4 offramp there. It's the next turn on your rt. I believe there's a drugstore and gas station on each corner.

we stayed at Saratoga Springs and OKW. Very convenient.

You have to keep several factors in mind -

they are only at Vista Way for a few hours on Day 1 - To Check-in; fill out paperwork; general orientation and given their training schedules.

After that, only those staying at Vista Way are commuting back and forth to settle into their apts.

Once the apts are assigned that first day, your daughter will be attending housing orientation near her complex and moving in there.

Her "Traditions" training which is assigned for the next few days will be at Disney University. Most kids bus there.

After that, she will be scheduled to train for her "role" which takes place at or near her work location and lasts several days.

So my advice is to stay where you want to be the most, since your daughter may not be able to spend much time with you at all. For that reason, we chose to be on Disney property and had fun checking our our son's work location etc even before he did!!

it was a great time.

feel free to ask me any questions. We took loads of pictures and I debated doing a trip report but never got around to it.

I stayed at pop when I flew down. I flew down myself and didn't have a car, so taking the free magical express was convenient. I was going to take a taxi to vista, but my roommate, who was staying at saratoga springs with her family(dvc members who came down early for vaca) said they would pick me up instead. It was super nice and great to do check in together. I actually left my luggage and stuff at the hotel because her dad went over later and checked out for me.
Anyways, that being said, if I remember correctly, you guys are driving down right? So really any Disney resort would be fine in my opinion. If you're not driving down, then the sunspree resort(I think that's the name of it) is right across the street from vista and lots of cps stay there

Holiday Inn Sunspree is where I stayed for my CP. It is actually right across the street from the Vista Way apartment complex. I stayed there the night before check in and walked over that morning with my roommate for check in and it worked out pretty good. They have an applebees connected to the hotel and there's also a lot of food around there (chic fil a, wendys, cicis pizza, longhorn, and golden corral). There's actually not too bad of a selection of food and stuff around there to do. Me and my family drove down as well.
