Which Disney resort?

I am so excited that DH is going to Anaheim in September for a work convention, and I get to tag along! We will be staying at the Hilton a mile from DTD for 4 nights. We will then check out and extend the trip for 3 nights. I have been checking out the 3 Disney Resorts. I would love to stay at the Grand Californian, but it is a bit pricey. I am thinking that the Disneyland Resort will be best. I have read all kinds of information on them all and know that we will be happy just staying with Disney.

So, is there any particular area in the resort we should request? Any info from any recent travelers? I am just so excited I had to share
