I know the contemporary was offering military discounts (I stayed there 2 years ago with a military rate) at one time, but when I called and asked about it recently they said they didn't honor any type of military discount. Do you guys know if any hotels besides S/D (from the online military discount) and SOG (obviously) offer some type of discounted rate to the military?

We are making our 1st trip this year and searched high and low but with no luck--Disney just straight out doesn't offer Military discounts for anything(not tickets or rooms or food) SOG is on WDW but not Disney they offer rooms based on your rank(that didn't help us though-cheaper for us to stay at a value) You would have better luck staying offsite to get a military discount but then you need to figure on everything else you'd be spending money on and figure out for yourself which way it would be cheaper!

Hi,

I was a Travel Agent for the Military (I ran the ITT office at Moody AFB). You have to contact you ITT or RTT or MWR office at your Base/Post and have them contact Disney for you. Disney only will offer Miltary discount for hotels during off peak times and only through official Military offices (they will only give us the codes). You can also get discount tickets with most of these offices also. If they are not in stock they should be able to order them, if not you can get them at SOG. The reason you you got a discount for the Contemporary (and it was a great discount to boot $65 a night is what I paid)a few years ago was that SOG was being remodeled and this is where they placed all of us Military folks while they were closed. If you have any other question please let me know.

A few other things to consider:

*SoG overflow rates - if they're full, they'll offer discounted rates at the other Disney properties

*AFVClub - visit http://www.afvclub.com and search for "Space-A" vacations. These are off property condos that are $299 for 7 nights

*Disney discounts - you just have to keep an eye out for these; last year, I believe they offered 40% off rack rates to military at one point

All of these will really vary on when you want to go. During the off season, SoG probably won't be full so wouldn't have overflow rates. Conversely, during high season, there won't be Space-A condos, and Disney won't be offering big discounts.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. Maybe I will go to the MWR and see if someone there can help me find out about discounts. I want to stay on Disney property cause we are traveling with a child who is very excited about stay "at Mickey's home".

We are traveling in July and SOG does have rooms open for the dates we want to go, so the overflow thing wouldn't work. I tried that last year, but SOG always seems to have rooms open for us (which is great of course, it's always nice to have a room).

If I can't get any good discounts for other Disney hotels it'll be either SOG or S/D because those are the ones I can get good military rates for.

Back to the MWR thing, do I just go in and ask an agent to help me figure out hotel rates? Or do I make an appointment? The only thing I've done at MWR is walk in and get pamplets.

Here we call to make appt because they only have one person who does anything with Disney so I'd call just to make sure before you go that someone will be there to help you so you don't waste a trip.---When we went in back in January we were told by MWR that they don't offer any discounts outside of staying at SOG or getting tickets tax free at ITR.

While not Disney, I know all the Universal hotels offer pretty good discounts. Just enter MIL for the discount code.

Last Aug I got a rate of $132 for AKL through my MWR. That was during the 40% rack rate for travel Aug1-Oct.

Be careful with overflow rates through SOG b/c they are not always that reduced. I just check for rates in June and I could stay cheaper with an AAA rate. Good luck and hope you find a rate.

Give them a call to see if you need an appointment. With my office you could just walk in but I think it depends on the facility. Good luck. I miss going to DW every month. We are stationed in Germany right now and have only been to Paris once because DH is never home. :(
