Can anyone tell me which disney characters are available for attending weddings/dessert parties, etc?

Thanks in advance

Pretty much any that you want outside of:
Pooh, Muppets, Star Wars, and anyone else Disney doesn't "own" but gets the licenes for.

I asked DF which characters we should get if we have a Disney wedding and he's like hmmm: Jasmine, Ariel (as a mermaid), and Cinderella!

I said only if I can get Captain Jack Sparrow! :rotfl2:

That reminds me. I think they've started saying no to face characters, but I can't remember.

I was told I could have the princesses in May at my PS (not that I wanted them! :rotfl:)

Just came back from my PS. I asked for Captain Jack Sparrow and my planner told me Jack can not appear anywhere outside of adventureland unless your wedding is full Pirate themed. I really wanted him too!! We got Stitch instead.

Hmmm, now to convince DF to not only have a Disney wedding, but a Disney Pirate Wedding...Would be worth it, we saw Captain Jack at the Pirate Tutorial and he is hilarious!

The Muppet characters were aquired in 2004 by Disney from Henson. The reason the Muppet characters are a no is due to size as they are "puppets" therefore appearing with humans puts them in the wrong perspective. Our reception was at Muppets Courtyard and we were originally told yes for Kermit/Piggy, however, MGM Management changed their mind due to the new policy.

Maybe you could pull of a Pirate Themed Reception ! I don't know about the wedding so much, but I could so see a reception....That sounds like FUN! :cool1: You could have it in Adventureland after hours, do a treasure hunt as part of the activities...this could be a VR idea in the works....

I will agree it looks wrong. I love the Muppets and probably would have done a Muppet themed wedding if they had the characters. But the one time I got my picture done with them back in Feb of 2003, Miss Piggy almost tore my arm off! Like serious pain! But I have the picture to prove it

One other thing - Miss Piggy and Kermit have never been the same size and height! That's just wrong!

Characters besides the normal usually can not appear outside their environment, especially if it is at an outside location. For example, if you want Mulan at ADH, you would have to pay extra for the backdrop and she would be unable to interact unless standing at that backdrop. If you want Fairy Godmother for Sea Breeze Point or Princess Jasmine, its not natural for them to appear at SBP, it would have to be in their environment. Same thing with the Genie and the candle stick from Beauty and the Beast. Disney will make an exception if your event is inside, but then again you will have to check with your Planner to see if allowed. I haven't found a character outside the normal that I can have at SBP. If any one knows of a character beside Mickey and the gang, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!

You can have Mickey, Minnie, Donald(and i think Daisy),Pluto, Goofy, Chip, and Dale WITHOUT a backdrop.

There was a long time where you could have pretty much any character that existed without any extra conditions but now you can't even get Lilo & Stitch without having a Hawaiian environment for them to hang out. I've been to an event where Snow White is standing at her backdrop right next to the dance floor and the kids ask her to dance but she can't because that's too far from her backdrop. She can just dance in place right there... the backdrops are really small too... not much room for the character to move to the left or the right.

I'm sorry but that is just silly! How does THAT add to the magic? As my mom would say: it seems they're trying to cut off their nose to spite their face!

Has anyone had Stitch? My Mom loves Stitch and that would be a nice surprise.

Yeah... makes it awkward for the characters too. I think it all comes down to making sure the characters aren't photographed with any inappropriate items. Like.. if you go see her in Germany at Epcot you have to put down your beer before you can take your picture... On the dance floor at a Disney Event there could be all sorts of things. Most Disney Events like that have open bars and people bring their drinks down to the dance floor. And imagine if Snow White goes to the dance floor because the DJ put on Hi-Ho and then the next song is the Thong Song. Someone may have been video taping and now the character has been compromised. And what if someone was doing some sort of nasty dancing beside her and someone thought they were just getting a picture of Snow White but in the background there are people being gross...then they put the picture on an online photo site..These are all examples of things that have happened in the past and for Disney to protect the purity of their characters the only thing they can do is say "Okay.. you can have our characters... but under our conditions." It makes it less fun but if you have enough money they do have bigger backdrops and scenes and activites the characters can participate in that are approved.

Stitch will be at our reception at ADH, and we're not having anything Hawaiian. He's scheduled to do the cake cutting and dancing with us. :confused3

Is it more expensive to have Stitch as apposed to some of the more traditional Disney Characters?

OlivePnut-I see your point, but with that logic, why do they allow Mickey and the rest of the Fab 5? Certainly, their image would be tarnished with such behavior, as well.

Also, the characters come to your wedding with "handlers" just as they do in the parks. So, their interaction is controlled regardless of the backdrop.

And lastly...I must opine that a few people's behavior always ruins it for everyone! :rotfl:
