On our last trip the kids and I crashed in my husbands hotel room booked by his company for a convention. We hit the parks everyday while he worked. Once the convention ended we stayed a few days at AKL relaxing and enjoying the resort, no park days.
We found this to be the perfect set up for us and are considering it again for his next convention.
That said, which deluxe would you choose strictly for enjoying the resort. Our time at the deluxe will not involve park days.

i know this probably wont be helpful, but i would go for whatever theming you find most desirable since all your time will be at the resort.

does it include Disney Springs - then SSR or OKW - they are not hotel rooms - but condo/timeshares. you can walk, boat, bus or drive to Disney Springs - or either AKL/V again.

the other deluxes are just too close to one of the theme parks - my favorite BLT you can get a view of the MK from even standard, but would never stay there unless I am doing the parks - same for the Epcot resorts.

The Poly is so nice especially since the renovation --it is on the monorail and is easy to jump on and explore the Contemporary and GF. The pool has been redone and there are good restaurants at all three connected resorts. You can also see the fireworks over the castle and the electric parade from the beach. The theming makes if feel like you are really somewhere different and on vacation!

You didn't mention when you would be traveling so I don't know if Wilderness Lodge will be finished with their construction while you are visiting. We do love that hotel and it is easy and not crowded --very peaceful..can take watercraft to Contemporary and jump on the monorail to visit the monorail hotels to eat and explore.

Have fun - we enjoy non park visits too!

GF or Poly. Then take the monorail to enjoy lounges and food at all the monorail resorts...California Grill at CR for a nice dinner and view of fireworks.

Beach or Yacht Club.

Yacht and Beach Club.
The location will allow you to enjoy the resort itself and the Boardwalk area itself.
Swimming at Stormalong Bay, getting Ice cream, rent a surry bike. Go to the Wyland gallery, see the night time entertainment on the boardwalk. Plenty of dining options and some nightlife at Jellyrolls for you and your husband possibly. This area allows for a nice resort only stay and a lot of other things to do as well. And see the fireworks from both Epcot and Studios.

We will be there in February. The kids will want to swim and I'll watch them from the sidelines. I don't swim until spring.

Last time I went in the beginning of February there was no way anyone was going swimming. It was so cold! We stayed at the GF and there is no heat in the rooms, just air conditioning. We literally wore every article of clothing to stay warm.

I find AKL to be too far from the parks for my taste. We've stayed in most of the deluxe resorts, and we've settled on the EPCOT resorts. My favorite now is Boardwalk, but the Beach Club is nice, too, though we found the pool to be just too busy and loud for our taste. My absolutely favorite is GF, but we no longer go to MK that often. We just LOVE the option of walking in and out of EP and Hollywood Studios, walking back in the afternoon to swim without having to mess with buses, etc. The vibe of the Boardwalk at night is just lovely, and looking out at Crescent Lake is just wonderful.

AKL is the resort I would do for a non park trip. I couldn't be at the BC/YC, that close to Epcot, and not go into a park. Too tempting for me. AKL just seems like a vacation within a vacation.

I would do AKL or an Epcot area resort. We stayed at the BW for a non park trip this past February. The BW pool and slide were closed so we were allowed to use SAB. It was warm enough for the kids to swim. Of course you never know. I've been there other years where we needed jackets and gloves.

I would hate to stay close to a park and not go in for multiple days, so I would stay in a treehouse at SSR, near the HH at OKW, or at one of the PO resorts for the proximity to Disney Springs. Once the refurb is done at CS I might consider that one as well.

Our absolute favorite is AKL. Favorite place to be in the world. And Boma is our favorite restaurant :)

Saratoga Springs has be our least favorite Disney resort. We've stayed all 3 levels at Disney, and I would choose a value over Saratoga. All Star Music was actually a surprising love for us. We moved there when we were stuck in town a few days after Hurricane Matthew and it was awesome.
