I just received a PIN code:cool1: and my DH has OKed a trip to WDW as long as we stay Deluxe and as long as he doesn't have to go to the parks with me and my 2 DDs.

Which deluxe would be the best for just relaxing? We're planning to go the first week in February. Stormalong Bay will be in rehab, and the animals will be off at AKL. I should also mention (if it affects your choice) that he's not a Disney fan :sad2:

Well i've found that most deluxe's are pretty relaxing so either way you can't go wrong. AKL has a very relaxing feeling. It has a great atmosphere and a nice pool to relax at, plus there's lots of activities for the kids. My favorite is the Polynesian. It has such a wonderful beach and pool and there are a lot of activities to do besides going to the parks. Take a look at each deluxe and see where they are located, what they offer, ect. My top choices would be AKL and the Poly :thumbsup2 The pool at Wilderness Lodge is fantastic too!

Grand Floridian is beautiful but it feels way too stuffy for me. Have a great trip!

I'd vote for the Poly because that would make it easy for your and DDs to hop on the monorail over to the MK or to TTC and then on to EPCOT. Also, You have the monorail resorts for dinners and such which DH could join you at. You can also see the fireworks from there, so DH could watch them w/ you one night from the beach at the Poly...

Also, the Boardwalk area would be nice as you would be close to Epcot and DH could go out and walk about if he wanted while you ladies were at the parks...

Hope you have a great time!

Not a fan of Disney (how can that be???)

...my favorite deluxe is the Contemporary resort...it's sleek and modern...but also very warm and lovely...and very little "Disney" themeing.

We stayed at AK this past February and loved it....very laid back and I literally just booked us a week at GF for next December.

I would go with the Contemporary because out of all the Deluxe Resorts it's the one with the least amount of an in your face theme, so maybe your husband will like that better if he's not a big Disney fan.

How about Boardwalk? You can walk to Epcot which DH might want to do for dinner some evening?? Easy boat ride to MGM and can actually walk thru Epcot and catch monorail to MK or use bus.

Otherwise I'd pick any of the resorts on the monorail, for convenience to MK & Epcot. They are all deluxe, with GF or Poly being most relaxing. Construction for new villas at CR might be noisy during the day.

What's he going to do while you guys are at the theme parks???

LOL! He said he would go one day with us to MK and one day to Epcot, but that's it. He's a consultant who works very long hours. Last trip, he just wanted to sleep, relax in the sun, and play his PSP. When we went to the parks, he moaned when he was hungry, when he was tired, when he had to go to the bathroom... trust me, we're better on our own :lmao: I'm not a commando-type anyways so we would definitely meet up for dinner.

I would pick the Polynesian...on the monorail, lush landscaping and just very pretty.

Every deluxe is awesome - you can't go wrong with any of them - but if I could afford any of them, I would probably pick either YC/BC/BWI because of the ability to get to two parks so easily - plus DH would have plenty to do - marina, people watch, boardwalk, etc..

I would pick one of the epcot resorts, BW, YC, or BC. I think that he could go to the ESPN club or just sit by the pools. Good luck!:goodvibes

I would say Poly! It is the most lush and relaxing, and as far as decor would probably feel the least" feminine" (most of the other Deluxe's have pastels and more delicate decor, while Poly and Contemporary have the least "feminine" details).

Being on the MK monorail loop puts you in close proximity to lots of restaurants without having to enter a park (if your hubby is not interested in going into one, and you can save $ on not having to get him park tickets in order to go to dinner). Sitting on the beach and watching the fireworks without having to enter a park is a nice perk, too! He can ride the monorail for fun, as well as hop on boats and take a little tour around different properties. For instance, he could take the monorail to the MK, then hop the boat to Wilderness Lodge and take in the sights.

Also, would he be interested in riding a Segway? Lots of geeks (such as those who would rather spend their days playing PSP ;) love that kind of tech. If he doesn't want to enter a park, there is an "off-road" Segway tour at Fort Wilderness. If he will want a day at Epcot, there is an "Around the World" tour in the morning in World Showcase. We did that one and found it to be a tremendous highlight of our trip!

Those are my thoughts.

This is exactly why I wasn't too upset that my DH didn't want to try WDW! Now he's going with me and I'm afraid he'll like it too much! :scared1:

I like the idea of booking BC/YC for your trip. Those two resorts should have the best of everything for your family. Hubby can relax and roam around, and you and your daughters can go and enjoy the parks. :)

I think your husband will find GF grounds relaxing...he can rent a cabana one day and relax while you and your 2 DD enjoy MK (a monorail ride and take the boat back from MK). Your 2 DD and you will enjoy the resort.

Have a magical vacation.

How old are your two girls? IF on the youngish side I'd recommend one of the monorail resorts, GF is our personal favorite, but the rest are nice also. If they are more into the EPCOT/Hollywood Studios vibe then one of the EPCOT resorts, our preference there is the Yacht Club. But if Stormalong Bay is down then I'd probably suggest the MK resorts again. We won't stay at Boardwalk Inn because my kids won't do the clown Pool as they call it and they're 11 & 13. "No way are we coming out of a clown's mouth, MOM!" DH refuses to stay at the AKL because it's so isolated, with the MK resorts and the EPCOT ones you have tons of dining within a short walk/monorail ride. Good luck planning. Oh yeah, my FH also says it's deluxe or stay home, we did a moderate once and found it wasn't to our taste at all :)

They will be just shy of 9 and 7. They do tend to lean towards Epcot as their favourite. I agree with that clown slide ... it looks pretty scary to me! :rotfl:

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into the water features ... it will be the first week of February. It's just that we are Canadian and are likely to be in that pool no matter what the local temps are. I would just feel that we were cheated out of the "deluxe" experience if Stormalong Bay was closed.

I need to see what my DH's priorities are ... quiet, versus ease of access to parks, versus recreation options. Are any of the resorts better than others for Children's activities? I know Poly & AKL have daily activities, is it the same with all the other deluxes?

Sorry, onsite newbie ... thanks for all the suggestions so far. :)

I am not aware of any onsite activities at BWI. BUT the Boardwalk itself has entertainment most evenings--magicians and the like. It's pretty quiet during the day, though.

If your kids love Epcot, sounds like Boardwalk Inn would be a hit! But then again, staying at Polynesian, you are walking distance from the TTC, where you can grab the monorail to Epcot!

I think most of the deluxe resorts have kids activities, I know that Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, and GF do. We have been at the YC in February, and January of this year also. Never thought about swimming but we're from GA, so it was pretty darn cool to us, lows in the 30s and highs around 50-60 some days. I actually layered cashmere sweaters with a vest and jacket and wound up purchasing a jacket at the YC just for warmth! The selling point for the GF for us is they have a small orchestra taht plays in the lobby nightly and several shops there, plus the convenience of hooping the monorail to another hotel to shop and dine there. The Boardwalk area is also fun at night, loud and boisterous, reminds me of what I imagine Coney Island to have been like in it's heyday. You can walk or take a boat to the studios also, which is a plus.
