Okay, trying to decide between WL, AKL, Poly, and BC. Have already tried AKL and WL and liked both. My only concern with AKL is no quiet pool (in case the main pool gets too crowded.)

Has anyone stayed at any of these over that weekend and have an experience to share?? Is it as crowded as Thanksgiving weekend?

Hi susy :wave2:

Are you planning on doing the parks too, or really just relaxing at the resort for that weekend? That would influence my decision.

We're staying at the Polynesian and not doing the parks but we want to have that Disney feel, so being "in the middle of it all" is exactly what we want. If we wanted a totally relaxing weekend without wanting to feel like we're in Disney World, I'd have chosen either the AKL or WL. I think the BC is a good middle ground, it's not away from the hustle and bustle, and you'd have a good choice of either swimming at SAB or walking around the Boardwalk, and still being able to just relax at the resort. We'll be there on Labor Day weekend and even though I'm sure it'll be crowded, as long as I have a lounge chair at the volcano pool, and a drink from the pool bar, and can see the castle while swimming, I will be thrilled! :sunny:

Happy planning, I'll be following this thread to see what you've decided!!

We were at WDW last year from May 20 to June 3. We stayed at the Poly and it was very relaxing. The volcano pool was awsome for great day of fun in the sun! It was really hot, so we spent several hour each day in the pool. The zero clearance pool is great because you can basically lay or sit down in the pool to keep cool. DEFINATELY DON'T FORGET TO KEEP APPLYING SUNSCREEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY!!! The beach is right there by the pool and the Barefoot bar is great. The view of the castle definately creates a magical background. We stayed out of the parks on Memorial Day and just stayed by the pool. There were lots of people, but I don't think it was over crowded. What a great way to kick off the summer!

For a relaxing holiday weekend I would go with a savanna view room at the AKL. We stayed at the AKL over Memorial Day weekend 2001 and had no problem finding a chair by the pool.

Personally, I would go a bit of a different route. I think the most relaxing approach is to rent a cabin at Fort Wilderness. You have a cabin tucked away in the woods with its own deck, bbq grill, kitchen and a full bedroom and living room (for the same price as a deluxe hotel room). Even when the park is busy, the cabins are quiet. You can rent a golf cart to facilitate travel in FW. No buses necessary. You can take boats from the marina to the Contemporary or WL, as well as the MK. Nothing is more relaxing than a lounge chair on the beach at the marina. There are several pools, some of which get little traffic. If you want pampering, then this isn't a good idea, but if you want to curl up with a book, it's perfect.

PAMPERING is exactly what I want. While the cabins look relaxing, the sight of dishes in the sink (even one dish) waiting for "someone" to wash them isn't...

Right now, I am leaning towards BC. Though probably not too quiet, we can be in walking distance from a few things and that might make for a more "relaxing pace".

While I like them all, my vote is for BC. It is such a nice resort and just the best location. You can relax at a quiet pool or venture out to the big theme pool. You can walk to EPCOT and just do a few attractions and easily be back to your room for a nap if you want. The evening is great on the boardwalk also - you can hop into EPCOT and have a great dinner somewhere while catching a few attractions or take a stroll around the boardwalk and grab dinner there. The possibilities are endless. If you are feeling adventurous, you can walk the 10 minute (or so) walk to MGM.

Memorial Day is a pretty good time to go. We usually go around that time most years because it is our anniversary. While the crowds and resorts are a bit more crowded on the weekend, Disney does a good job of line and crowd control. If you staying at all longer, you will notice the crowds drop quite a bit after Memorial Day.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi Susy! I think the BC can be very relaxing for the reason you mentioned. You can stay at Epcot to watch Illuminations without giving a thought to the crowds, because you can simply stroll back over to the BC whenever you get ready. You don't have to fight the crowds at the end of the night. We got a standard view (I guess it was really considered a garden view) with a full balcony. It was so peaceful and quiet, even though we were there the last weekend in August.
I hope you have a great trip!

Yacht Club because all the rooms have a full balcony and it was alot more quiet then the BC.

I would choose AKL, I have never had a problem with the pool being overcrowded. Besides I think somthing in the firepit/combined with the music is designed to help you relax. And I am only half kidding on that.;) There are alot of activitys for your little guy to do with ever leaving the resort. It is hands down my fave place to relax!

We stayed at AKL over the holiday last year and it was lovely. Their are many niches and quiet areas around the pool to relax at. It was busy, but the pool is so large that it never felt crowded. We ended up spending most of the weekend at the resort and avoided any parks during mid-day, so we felt relaxed and refreshed.
