which deck is your favorite? why do you like that location? wondering what is best all around...proximity as well as risk of being sea-sick (never cruised before)...thanks!

We've stayed on Deck 2, 6 and 8. We really like Deck 6 because it was centrally located between all the decks.

we've stayed on deck 6 and deck 8, and they both had great things about them.

Deck 6 is a little more economical and fairly centred in the ship.

Deck 8, the cabin is a bit bigger and it certainly helped with my exercising (I vowed to never take the elevator anywhere... so it was great that I only had to walk down one flight of stairs from the pool when I'm wet, but coming from the other decks, I had to hoof it).

I personally found no difference between the decks for sea-sickeness (and I get sea-sick let me tell you!). My only suggestion would be to book a cabin fairly centered (as opposed to the ends of the ship)

Also, a trick my dad taught me (he was a sailor in the Canadian Navy) is to take bonamine three days before you actually get on the ship. It really does help (I didn't try it on our first cruise, but I did on the second and I noticed a remarkable improvement). Also, I found the Western Cruise to be a lot smoother sailing than the Eastern.
Last tip, even if you're nauseous, eat something and try not to drink as much. Obviously, don't let yourself get dehydrated, but cut down on the water, and make sure you have something in your stomach (preferably a carb of some sort to soak up some of that acid).

Hope this helps :)

we just returned from our 1st cruise and we were on deck 6 closer to aft elevators. It was a good location for us and we rebooked again for same area. Keep 1 thing in mind, the elevators can be extremely slow and when they do come they can already be full. We found it easier to always walk down and sometimes wait for an elevator up. We spent alot of time coming and going from the kids oceaneer lab (deck 5 midship) so deck 6 was a short hop both up and down. I do remember realizing at the last second that I didn't have my I.D. with me just as we were about to tender in grand cayman.(deck 1 forward) I tried to run to the room( yeh right) I ran the first 2 floors, walked the next 2 and crawled the last one, I stumbled down the hall to our room got the darn I.D. and then struggled to the forward stairs and practically fell down 5 flights of stairs to my waiting family who wanted to know why it took me so long and why I was sweating so much. By the way the next tender wasn't for another 15 minutes, there was no need to rush!!! The moral is location does count, and dad needs to get into shape!

I've only been on a few cruises, but grew up spending weekends and vacations on cabin cruisers and used to be an avid SCUBA diver (pre-son).

Being lower and more centered as katdb mentioned above helps, but remember, you are not spending all your time in your cabin. If you think of a ship as an upside down pendulum, there is actually more motion the higher up you go (and people pay more for that)! However, if you have claustrophobia, the lower levels don't help. Taking the medication at least a day before you board does, and keep taking it even if you think you are ok...unless you know you don't get sick (I just fall asleep...lol). Nowadays these ships have huge stabilizers and unless you hit really bad weather, you won't be shaking all over the place. Like I mentioned, it actually puts me to sleep. On our last cruise I was out by 10 every night.

Also if you are deckside and feel queasy, don't look down at the water, look out at the horizon. That helps balance your inner ear.

We always book on deck 7 aft. I like being close to the big balcony on the back of the ship. I like being close to the elevators so it's easy to get around the ship. The deck is centrally located so it's not too far up or down from where you're going. Recently we've been booking the category 7 rooms on this deck, as we feel they're the best combination of balcony and savings.

Deck 2. Ocean view is the cheapest there is (except for the SPH rooms on deck 5). You are close to the restaurants (just one flight up). You are close to the disembarkation points when at the islands (deck 1). The biggest benefit is that you have to climb 8 decks to get to deck 9 (topsiders and the pools). By doing the stairs, you get to have more desserts at dinner:tongue:

deck 2 aft starboard side near elevators....2618, 2614, 2620 are my 3 favorite staterooms....

That's easy - Deck 3. It's where the food and Off Beat is!
