which deck is better?

i am sailing for the first time with DH and DS10 and DD5 (May 22 4-day Wonder). I am worried about our cat10 stateroom on deck 2. I got a room between the midship and aft elevator lobby, right below the promenade lounge. Although it isn't listed as one of the noisy rooms, I am wondering if I should request for a cat10 room on deck 5 or 7. I am also a little prone to motion sickness so I am not sure that moving to a higher deck is the best way to go. Someone told me that lower deck is better, but someone also said higher is better. Which one is which? Since cat10 rooms are only on decks 1, 2, 5 and 7, is it better to be on a higher deck and more in front of the ship, or is it better to be on deck2, around midship? Any info to ease this crazy head of mine will be appreciated. Thanks!

If you can get a category 10 room on deck 5, do it. These rooms actually have portholes in them. The view is somewhat obstructed by lifeboat equipment, so they're sold as inside rooms, but they actually do have windows and natural light. They're often referred to as "secret porthole rooms," although the secret is largely out.

I've always thought that the lower you are on the ship, the less you feel its movement, so if you're really worried about motion sickness, the deck 2 room is probably the way to go. I've never stayed in this area, but in my experience, the Promenade lounge is never really that crowded or noisy, so you shouldn't have to deal with much noise from it.

Still, all in all, I'd try for the deck 5 rooms. There are only six of them, so it's hard to snag one.

Good luck!

thanks, senor!

i will try to get the rooms on deck 5, although i highly doubt that i will get them since the spdr's are really popular from what i have read. also, from the deck plans, these rooms are in the front of the ship.....doesn't that location have more movement than the middle or rear part of the ship?

I was on deck 2 on my last cruise, mid ship... and we didn't really have any noise problems.. you do hear them docking at Castaway, but I used that as my wake up call to get out early for castaway...

These are the some HUGE benefits for being on deck 2 in my opinion....

1) you are so close to disembarking for the ports of call, this comes in handy, since stairs are ten times easier to access on those days then the elevators...

2) you are just a stair case away from the night activities

3) Just a stair case or two away from dining

4) in my experience, it's easier to catch elevators on lower decks

thanks, disneygator! I guess i'll be okay on deck 2. I should just stop worrying about which deck is better because i'll probably stress myself out! Thanks for all the info.

Deck 2 is awesome....we have stayed on Deck 1 and Deck 2 twice. Great locations as disneygator mentioned....much easier to catch the elevator from lower deck and you are so close to atrium/guest service and restaurants.

Still my favorite reason for Deck 1 and Deck2 is getting back to your stateroom after shore activities....just walk down the hall on Deck 1 and up one flight of stairs for Deck2...no waiting and cramming for the elevators.

I don't know what the fuss is about Deck 2. I personally don't believe the higher the better I think that is a "mind set" thing.

We have stayed on deck 2 mid ship and it was great (2108). Nice and quiet, very little ship movement, easy to catch the elevators and we were navigating a stroller and wheel chair.

I think to "each their own" but I found the higher decks loud and "busy" and found it great to escape down to the quiet. Deck 2 Category 9 cabins have a HUGE round window that was beautiful to watch the sun set or see where we were etc. I like having the window.

I can afford to stay higher up but will stay on deck 2 again on the Magic in October 2003 because of the quiet and less busy corridors.

Have fun!

Hey Buzz&Woodys mom, what are you doing in our room? We had that room in 2001 and 2002. Tried to book for 2003 but had to settle for 2114. We also love the location of deck 2. On the Wonder we were the same location, but different side of ship. Very convient to everything and not noisy at all, just love the purr of those engine. Of course with the weather we are having this winter I would go if they made me stay in a broom closet with no windows!

Great cabin isn't it? We had it and 2106 booked for the 10/26/03 Wonder but switched last month to the 10/25 Magic and were lucky enough to snag 2104 & 2106.

I like that whole section, it is quiet and I LOVE quiet, espcially having a toddler.

When are you sailing again and I hope you get "our" cabin :)

We go again 8/9 eastern and have cabin 2114, but DU has us on a wait list for 2108, so maybe that person will end up not going and we can have it.

thanks to everyone for their comments about deck 2! I really appreciate all the information that you provide. sounds like deck 2 has a lot of advantages, so i shouldn't be worried. Im so excited about this trip, and can't wait.
