We have 3 park days, non-hopper tickets and we are going to purchase Genie+ for one of our DL days.

Sunday 5/22 - DL
Monday 5/23 - DCA (no Genie+, purchase ILL for both WS and RSR)
Tuesday 5/24 - DL

Which day would you purchase Genie+ for DL? Sunday or Tuesday?

I'm leaning towards Tuesday only because we are traveling with a first timer (DD's 16 year old friend) who will probably be overwhelmed on our first day. She is also not a morning person and is not used to waking up early. So I'm thinking of letting her sleep-in (a little) on Sunday and having that be a more relaxing day, where she gets accustomed to the feel of the park, does some low-key, low-wait attractions and acclimates a little. Then do Genie+ on Tuesday, waking up early and moving at a faster pace.

But I also know that Sunday will be a lot more crowded and Genie+ will be more useful that day than on Tuesday.

Thoughts?

we ended up doing G+ our last Disneyland day on a weekday and i was happy. DCA doesn't have much advantage since you have to buy into ILL for WS and RSR. But we don't like screamer and GOG so really we only miss out on Soaring. we did a lot of warm ups and just soaking in our whims and the last day we were like "get er done!" and were cruising thru lines 100%. it was unconventional but we really enjoyed it.

Okay, now I am confused. I thought you needed G+ in order to get ILL. So--am I understanding that you don't need to spend the $20 on G+ and can simply pay whatever the going rate is that day for the few rides for ILL.

So…Genie+ gives you LL access (once per ride per day) for certain attractions at both parks. Excluded from Genie+ are RSR, WS and Rise. You can purchase Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) for those 3 attractions (up to 2 per day)…regardless of if you have purchased Genie+.
I hope that makes sense!
So on our DCA day, we are NOT going to get Genie+ because we would only use it on Soarin’ and TSMM. Instead, we will buy the ILL for WS and RSR.

that is what we did at DCA. we rope dropped one or two of the headliners and then bought the ILL for another.

I wouldn't necessarily assume Sunday will be more crowded. In my experience lately, Monday actually tends to be more crowded than Sunday. In terms of "relaxing day" you also need to look at the operating hours and personal stamina. If you've been walking 20,000 steps per day for two days already and typically only get about 5,000 steps, you may actually find yourself wanting to relax the most on that Tuesday.

An advantage of doing Tuesday is that on your last day, you'll feel freer to do rides without worrying as much about wait times. At the beginning of a trip, you may find you have more patience. An advantage of doing Sunday is that you can immediately get on the major rides if those are a priority.

5/23 is a holiday in most of Canada, so I'd expect Sunday/Monday to have extra people
