Ok, which one is your favorite, the Creative Memories one with the shapes and three sets of blades, or the Fiskars which has a nearly unlimited amount of patterns? What makes it your favorite? I'm still undecided. The Fiskars does seem like the better value, with more options available, however, it also seems like it would be difficult to make a shaped picture and a border for it because it seems like you can't make sizes that are only a little different. Help me! Thanks!!

I prefer the Coluzzles for any shapes or matting. It also doesn't do a super thin mat around a picture. But usually if I want a border I want the color for some reason so the size of the coluzzles work for me!:D

Not that I use it all that much these days, but I really like the CM cutting system. I fine it really easy to use.

I have both and use both systems a lot. The CM oval and circle cutters are great because there are many sizes to pick from, so if circles and ovals are what you really want it for I would go with that. The Fiskars shape cutting system is great for a variety of shapes, and it is very easy to use (unlike fiskars oval and circle cutters) I have about 12 templates. Granted you don't get as many size choices, but some templates have several to pick from, for example the diamond and heart templates have 8 sizes, and the star template has 7. The shape cutter itself is also great for cutting out free form shapes or following a drawn pattern, you use it without a template on a cutting board. I didn't get the square or rectangle templates because they are easily cut with a paper cutter. Also most of the templates each have a different border shape around the outside of the template to use.

Oops- forgot to add why I like it----it was the first thing I ever bought from CM because I was disappointed with the other circle cutters I had bought from Michael's. I like that you know exactly what size you are going to cut by looking at the template. I like the quality of the product. If I cut shapes, it's 90% ovals or circles, so the CM system works great for me...plus their other shapes are fun as well- I have the Gemstone pattern which has hearts, a balloon, a hexagon, and a diamond. I am going to make Christmas Cards with my Celestial Star template (make a Santa out of it). I also like to make just the outlines of a circle or star by using my blue blade first, then use my red blade, so you have just a 1/4" wide frame or outline if you will, to have on your page- it looks cool!

Funny you should ask. I just gave my DD my old Fiskers Oval and Circle Cutters today. I have don't use them anymore, love the CM cutters. I know exactly what I'm going to get when cutting and matting.

If you are looking for oval and circle cutters my vote goes to CM cutters.

These are all so interesting. I'd love to hear more, because I'm still pretty wishy washy...What I don't get is why you can't tell what size stuff will be with the fiskars set...doesn't it cut close to the size it appears in the pattern?

Thanks guys I really appreciate it!

With the fiskars shape cutter templates (which should not be confused with the old fiskars circle and oval cutters, this is a completely different system) the shape cutter blade cuts around the inside of the plastic template so your cut out is slightly smaller than the size of the template. The guide sheet that comes with the CM cutters will show the exact size for each of the cutting blades. I have found that both are equally easy to use, and as I stated above, if it is circle and ovals you are primarily going to cut, the CM system gives you more size choices. I love the fiskars for the other template shapes they have, there are a lot of patterns you can get (but I have only seen a few in the stores, I have gotten mine online). The shape cutter has a swivel blade so you can actually cut out a shape as if you were drawing with it, without using a template, you just don't screw down the blade as far. Hope this made some sense, I've had a long night of running here and there with the kids.

I went through 3 blades on my 12 personal trimmer from Fiskars in 1 weekend. I had to leave my crop, find a phone book, call to see if they had the blade replacements & run to the store. Now that I have the cm system, I don't have to buy the 4 sided mat cutter for the LARGE paper cutter (rotary blades) either.

Love the Gemstone patterns. It has a large heart, w/ hexagon inside, large triangle w/ smaller one inside & a heart along with an egg shape inside.

Do they still sell those gemstone patterns? I haven't seen them anywhere in the books...

than the most recent catalog, so that is why you can't find them in there! You can see them online at creativememories.com though.

I vote for the CM system, too! Love it! But I don't favor a lot of shaped photos, anyway. Circle and ovals for me, mostly.

just my opinion of course - but I ripped more dang paper and pictures I quit using it!

I have and love coluzzles (there is a special on them right now at www.creativexpress.com) and the options are ENDLESS!

CM ovals I use a lot - thats about it ;)

I'm a huge fan of the CM cutting system. I have not only circles and ovals but a five sided and six sided shape and a large oval for large pictures. I got this set as a bonus for spending an exorbitant of amount of money over a 12 month period so not sure if it was ever available for sale. I just purchased the Gemstone set and love it.

I think CM sounds like the way to go for me...seems like the money would be worth it not to risk tearing my pictures and being able to do borders, not to mention the return policy. Coluzzle has me a little interested though. Could someone give me a general price on those? The website was a little too complicated for me...

I love my CM circle and oval cutting system but I hate the 12" straight trimmer they sell to work with their cutting system - I can never get it to cut correctly (always at a slight angle). I need ideas on the best 12" paper trimmer.

I like both CM and colozzel.

That said I never use them anymore (I have both) I have been scraping for 8 years and scraping for others for 2. I never, well almost never, use anything but a a straight edge anymore. For that I like the Carl trimmer.
