Planning a big trip from Australia. First time to WDW & DCL, first cruise in fact.

Which destination would be your favourite? West or East Caribbean Cruise or Bahamas?

We were actually thinking to just do the 4 night Bahamas on the Dream, we want to see the Venelope's Sweet Treats shop since we are big Wreck it Ralph fans. The Caribbean cruises are on the Fantasy from what I see, and they are 7 night cruises.

Being new to cruising, I am not sure what to expect and if we should opt for 7 nights or settle with 4. We probably wont get on another Disney Cruise unless they come to Australia some day.

For me, I'd opt for a Fantasy back to back East/West cruise. But that's me - I like the longer cruises.

The only way I was able to convince myself to do a 4 night cruise on the Dream was to couple it with the Fantasy B2B cruises we did, so it seemed like one longer cruise with a 2 night overnight at WDW between the Dream & Fantasy cruises.

I would do a 7 night. I wouldn't pick a cruise based on a Candy shop. The ports offered in the 7 night cruises are better, and since your coming all the way from Australia it's a no brainer. I assume your visiting WDW too?

The 4 night seemed very rushed to my family, even to the kids. That could be because we are used to the longer cruises. Even the mentality of the other cruisers seemed like everyone was in a rush to fit everything in. The 7 night cruises seem more relaxed from the get go.

If your budget will allow it, do a 4 night Dream and then a 7 night Fantasy to see as much of the area as possible. If you have to choose, 7 night Fantasy.

We're flying the family in from Europe for our vacations so I've been in the same boat, so to speak. I've tried a 3-day Dream cruise to Nassau and two 7-day Western cruises on the Fantasy, and, given your circumstances, I would also recommend a 7-day cruise if at all possible. From reading the boards over the past couple of years, my own impression is that the vast majority of those of us, who have started with a shorter cruise to "try it out", end up both loving it and feeling that it was too short and rushed. That's certainly how we felt: none of us ever imagined that we would end up liking cruising better than going to WDW. The 3- and 4-day cruises are wonderful for people who otherwise wouldn't be able to go on a Disney cruise, but, since you are putting so much effort (jetlag, travel time, ...) and money into flying in from Australia, I honestly feel that you likely would end up regretting it if you didn't go for the full week. For our own vacations, we usually stay in the US for 2 1/2-3 1/2 weeks, including 2-4 days in Disney World before and after the cruise, but the cruise itself has clearly become the main event for us. This is just my own opinion, of course. To be very honest, I felt like screaming "7 days!" out loud when I read your post :-). Whatever you go for, though, you're in for a great time!
