I'm thinking of getting another credit card, and would like one with "perks" like frequent flyer miles. Which one is a good one? How much do you have to charge up to get a free flight somewhere? If I can get one in time, I could use it to finish paying for our upcoming Disney cruise (the money is in the bank, but I would prefer to pay for it by credit card, then just pay the card off when the bill comes) which would be about $2800....would that get me anything, or do you have to charge a lot more to get free flights? I know nothing about them, so hope someone can give me some information....thanks!! :D

I looked into them and decided on the Southwest Visa. You get a roundtrip ticket for every $16,000 spent. The start you with 4 points to start for getting the card. ($1000 is 1 point). Southwest is one of the biggest airlines at our airport so it works for us.

Thanks for the info, DopeyRN
Anyone else have a frequent flyer card?

We have a Delta Sky Miles Platinum AmEx and we get tons of bonus miles and perks with it. I fly Delta pretty much exclusively so it is very much worth it. My husband uses the card for business travel too so the miles rack up QUICKLY. Plus we PAY IT OFF every month, no debt.

Whatever airline you think you will fly the most, go with their affinity card. :)

go to www.webflyer.com its Randy Peterson's sight. He is the guru of FTP miles and there is a lot of info on there on which card gets you the best miles faster, etc. If you have any questions post it there and you will get the best info. He also puts a book out called the official frequent flyer guidebook. It tells you how to accrue the most miles by what means on what airlines and hotels etc.
Most carriers require 25,000 miles for a free tkt, and sometimes they run off peak times and you only have to use 20,000 miles. Some airlines have a program where you have to fly so many segments to get a free tkt.
You can also earn miles with your long distance carrier too! This can rake in the miles.
I would suggest tying yourself in with the airline that you fly most, as this would be the easiest to accrue on.

Each dollar spent = 1 point
8,000 points = $100 rebate off of any flight, any airline
32,000 points = 1 free R/T ticket anywhere Continental US (again, any airline)

Plus, as an added bonus, if you have Quicken, you can automatically download your statement into the software. :)

i have the united visa, and i've been happy with it. when i signed up i got 10,000 miles as a bonus. $1=1 ff mile. i use it in conjunction with my grocery club card which also gets me united miles.
