Which concierge with young children?

Thanks for the photo links Tikiman--looks very nice.

We're used to pretty warm weather in general, so I don't know if we'll even use the pool in December. I have always thought that SAB looks pretty impressive. I think I'll place more emphasis on great pool for a warmer month trip. (Of course we'll bring our suits, just in case though. DD does love the pool.)

I guess you always want to make each trip the best you can and so agonize over the resort choice, but I'm sure for us any one will be extra special having never done concierge before. Still leaning toward GF SL but still a little bummed about the lounge.

It definitely lacks the ambience of the main building lounge, but it's still really nice. IMO, it feels more like a bed & breakfast setup. It's very cozy and because everything is located in the same area, you have more opportunity for interaction with the CM's. The kids and I were just talking about our stay there. The CM's were so nice to my son. It was prior to them having soda's available and that's what my DS wanted to drink. He's very outgoing anyway and asked the CM's if they had any out back. Everytime they saw him, they would make sure to give him a few.

While I prefer the main building, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Sugar Loaf. I think you'll enjoy it.

Well thinking about what you said, at least the YC has hot tubs and you can get through the buildings without going out side. Not that winter there gets as much rain as summer but I am thinking that the YC is sounding like a better idea for you. I met a few of the YC concierge CMs once when they were working at the Polynesian and the where very skilled and friendly. Also I hear a lot of very good reports about YC concierge. I was not very impressed with the rooms at the BC so if I had to choose from those to it would be the YC. It is a fun location over there.

i agree with TammiMcMan, the Sugar Loaf lodge concierge at the GF is very nice....
it's nice to have the CMs right there in the lounge with you (it's really the lobby of the building, but it's very nice)...
and Sugar Loaf is right next to the main building...you barely walk outside at all....and if you walk along the verandah of the main building, all you have to do is walk outside for a few steps if it's raining out....not bad at all...(and it's very close to the food court as well)....

when we stayed at Sugar Loaf we enjoyed it a lot...and the CMs were wonderful....and the concierge lounge was nice and close to our room so that was great too....

by the way, the reason i never suggest the Poly is i don't like the Poly's theming.....i live in a tropical country and have a yard full of palm trees....if i want tropical i'll stay at home (where the tropical is less out of date than at the poly)....

i didn't notice that you were talking about december....we also tend not to swim in WDW when we're there in december.......anything less than 85 degrees and sunny, is frigidly cold by our standards (yesterday there was a cold wave here...it was overcast and 75 and everyone had on winter parkas....with fur collars....i kid you not.....pretty funny really).....

Well I was looking on the disney site just to see what YC had available but looked up GF first and a main building concierge room came up so I switched my reservation to that. I still got the AAA rate so hopefully is not too bad a deal.

I've gotten the impression that the other resorts, those at EPCOT, etc. may have somewhat friendlier CMs, but I think being on the monorail will be key for us with the two little ones. And we just don't feel interested in Poly or CR at this time--maybe next time?

Of course, now this is the 3rd time I've changed my reservation so you never know :) !

Can I call the IPO people after I've paid the deposit? Thanks for everyone's input--I'm sure we're not the only folks with little ones wondering about this topic.

We have never had problems with concierge CMs at any location and considering many of them change locations often among the deluxe resorts, you might find you see someone from another resort you really liked at a new resort.

We truly enjoyed Sugar Loaf and loved the central location.

OOOOOH! I am excited for you. You will LOVE it!

I think the lounge staff at the GF are wonderful and very nice. Never had a problem. I have 3 kids and I never felt like the GF was not kid friendly at all. Our last visit to RPC was in August and we had very nice concierge CMs (smiled and greeted us and were very friendly - outstanding, actually). The housekeeper was great and all good interactions with every CM we encountered anywhere around the resort. I don't think you will have any regrets!!

Have a great time!!! Regarding contacting the IPO, I would do it about 100 days out from check in. That way you can introduce yourselves and make any requests for ADRs or special plans.

Happy planning!

that's wonderful!!.....i love the RPC concierge (main building) best of all...
and where did you get the idea that the CMs there aren't friendly???...they are wonderfully friendly...
i can't believe you got RPC....that's the hardest concierge to get.....it's always booked.....and with a discount...wow.....

the only thing not kid friendly is the concierge food, not the CMs....the CMs in the GF are super fantastic....everywhere....the most helpful and friendliest CMs on property........wherever i walk at the GF, CMs always smile, and often ask how's my stay and is there anything they can do for me..

by the way, since you're staying at the GF, one of the greatest things about the GF is the private dining (room service)....the food is excellent and the service outstanding....if you order from room service, ask for Howard as your waiter....all the room service CMs are great, but he's our favorite....he always puts a smile on our face...

oh...and friendly CMs.....the CMs who work at the Gasparillo food court are also extremely helpful.....

I LOVE the GF!!!!.....

Congratulations on getting the main building. Looks like it was just meant to be. As soon as your reservation is in the system, I would definitely get in touch with the IPO staff. If your going in December, I'm sure they can start making your ADR's and any other arrangements that you need. You can call or they seem to prefer e-mail.

Thanks, you guys! Now I'm feeling really excited and can move on to other things about the trip. We actually went on our honeymoon ?8 years ago at the GF (standard room) and hadn't really thought about going back before this. I think it will be great. Now I can move on to other things. :sunny:
