Which coaster next should I try?

Hi!! I am tying to overcome my fear of rides. The part I hate the most is the big drops like in Splash mtn. I handled Thunder Mtn. well on our last visit. Which coaster should I try next that would have less or no big drops? Either at Disney or  pssst. Universal ?

Have you tried Space Mountain yet? DH doesn't like drops, but he loves Space. He won't do Splash again (once was enough for him)

Space is really similar to Big Thunder, only it's in the dark. If you can choose which side, I think the right side is a little lighter & a little tamer. (That's a whole 'nother controversy tho :earboy2: )

Then from there, who knows? Maybe RnRC will soon be on your lists of Things To Do!

I agree with Space Mountain. I see you live in Indiana--have you thought about going over to Cedar Point this summer and trying some of the tamer coasters?

I've been training my dd since she was a little girl--gradually increasing the intensities of the coasters as she got older. We always found plenty at Cedar Point that she enjoyed but weren't the big headliners. This year, she swears she's going on Millenium Force.

Rock N Roller Coaster doesn't have any big drops.
It does go upside down, but it is not even scary because it is in the dark and you can't see what's coming.

Good luck with getting over your fears..... it CAN be done.
I used to be afraid and now I will go on anything and my 2 favorite coasters are (at Cedar Point) Millenium Force (300 foot drop) and Top Thrill Dragster (400 foot drop).

I say Space Mtn or Test track. I hear ya on the scared of drops thing! My 5 year old did Splash 3 times on our last trip and was stunned that I wouldn't go! I am trying to get myself ready for Everest this Oct. We shall see!

Since you're going to Universal try the Mummy coaster! It's inside, part coaster, part "not coaster", for lack of a better explanation. There are no real large drops (not like the type on a traditional wooden rollercoaster--I don't like those, either). It's smooth and fun with no inversions. My son who was 10yo when we were there in April was scared to go on it (scared that it really went upside down) and he loved it. My 81yo mother went on it twice last month. It's a fun ride! Make sure you get an express pass or go early in the day, right after the Shrek show.

I was at Cedar Point for a school trip about 29yrs ago! Yikes, am I really that old? I rode a wooden rollar coaster, I think it is still there, It was scary! My friend make me do it, and she said she thought I was going to die, and would never make me go on another coaster again! lol :earboy2:

It sounds like a lot of you are saying space mountain! Can someone discribe what it is like? Why is it so cool? I am ready to stop being afraid! I am going to ask about the Mummy ride on the Universal boards. It really looks fun, but I was too scared because it is a roller coaster! lol What is bad is now my kids are scared of coasters because of me and they are 8 and 9. My DH doesnt like them either, so I will have to go alone! yikes! :earseek:

Like someone else said, it is alot like Thunder Mtn but dark. The seats are pretty comfortable. There are 2 seats in each car and they one in front of the other so you basically ride alone. There are no big drops like Splash just lots of twists and turns! Very fun!

Test Track is a coaster of sorts too. Maybe your kids will do that one. It starts out just testing the car you are riding in. Nothing scary then you go around a circular track at 60MPH. No hills or drops just fast. May be a good way to get their feet wet for coasters.

That's how my roller coaster experiences were when I was youger too! I thought I was going to die!

I am OK on BTMRR and goofy. I rode space once 18 years ago. I cried like a baby. What I am struggling with is that it was so long ago I don't remember what it was like, only that I was scared. I am trying to phyche myself up to try it again this trip for my DDs.

I was terrified to try Splash mtn, but my 5 yo DD loved it soooo much I just had to give it a try. I just screamed like crazy on the drop and then it was over. There is so much to see inside the ride that it is worth the drop. It is now a must do for me!

If I can do splash and BTMRR will space mtn be OK??

I think Space would be fine if you can endure the drop on Splash!

I think I will give it a try.

drumflower - I'll be back before you leave. I'll let you know how it goes!

Space Mt cars actually fit 3 people in each car, single file, with 2 cars attached together. I'll have to say that Space is my least favorite of the WDW/Universal coasters. I think it's jerky and I much prefer Mummy Coaster, but they are similar types of coasters. My 5yo likes Space Mt a lot and I know my 11yo will want to go on Space several times. He's going on Rock N Rollercoaster for the first time and he's excited and nervous. When you are ready for inversions RnR is a good one because it's fairly smooth, especially if you sit in front and it's over with quickly.

My 5yo will ride RnR as soon as he is tall enough. He's 44" now and knows that I'll bring him back to WDW when he is 48".

My 11yo was almost 8yo when he was last at WDW. I got him to go through the queue and my DH was waiting in the gift show near the exit. Zachary, being the weenie that he is :) did take advantage of the chicken exit. Since only the 2 of us are going this trip he knows that he will ride the ride with me or wait in the gift shop by himself. I do think that he will try it once and was so proud of himself this summer when he rode SuperDooperLooper at Hershey Park. He only rode that because his little brother was riding it--Zachary had tears in his eyes and was ready to lose it. It was very pathetic, but once he rode it he was glowing.

I'm the biggest chicken in the world, and have no trouble with Space Mountain or RNR. Give 'em both a whirl!

He is braver than I am! We go to Hershey every year. The trailblazer is the only coaster I go on. DD who was 9 last summer was so excited to be tall enough to ride the great bear with DH! She loved it. I meanwhile was a basket case until I saw her safe and sound after the ride.

I'm a big RC chicken and I can do Space Mountain. I scream the whole time and close my eyes a bit, but that's all part of the fun to me. It is a bit jerky and can feel rough, but it *is* fun. I cannot do RNR anymore. Gave it two tries wtih my DS16, but that take off nearly cased me to barf! I can't do the loopy things, either.... no upside down for me anymore!
Test Track is great, too. I have to do that one every trip!
Have fun!
