Which coaster next should I try?

He is braver than I am! We go to Hershey every year. The trailblazer is the only coaster I go on. DD who was 9 last summer was so excited to be tall enough to ride the great bear with DH! She loved it. I meanwhile was a basket case until I saw her safe and sound after the ride.

Hershey Park has the Lightening Coaster. That was a good one--not too scary, but very fun. I rarely like wooden coasters, but that one I did. Of course I also went on Storm Runner--scared the beejeebers out of me, but what a ride! My 14yo son tried to back out at the last minute but went on it and LOVED it.

That's how my roller coaster experiences were when I was youger too! I thought I was going to die!

I am OK on BTMRR and goofy. I rode space once 18 years ago. I cried like a baby. What I am struggling with is that it was so long ago I don't remember what it was like, only that I was scared. I am trying to phyche myself up to try it again this trip for my DDs.

I was terrified to try Splash mtn, but my 5 yo DD loved it soooo much I just had to give it a try. I just screamed like crazy on the drop and then it was over. There is so much to see inside the ride that it is worth the drop. It is now a must do for me!

If I can do splash and BTMRR will space mtn be OK??
Yes. I did Splash and BTMRR years ago, but was afraid of Space Mountain (I'm a BIG chicken when it comes to roller coasters) but when I finally got the nerve to ride Space Mtn. I ended up thinking "what's the big deal?" There was nothing to it.
Test Track was awesome!!
RnRC is next on my list.
I don't know when/if I'll get the nerve to ride Hulk or Dueling Dragons.

:flower1: Good luck! If you do, I will do it! lol :flower1: p.s. unless you tell not to, okay! lol
I did it, so you two can do it for sure. To tell you how brave I was, DH, DS and I were there by ourselves. DS is only 3 and not nearly tall enough to go on Space Mtn. I was determined to ride it, so I got in line by myself while DH stayed with DS. (DH loves coasters and was laughing at me because I was so scared). Anyway, this nice young guy was sitting behind me (I was in the front of the car) and told me it was really nothing, he'd been on Space Mtn. too many times to count. Well, he was screaming like a girl and I only let out 1 little shout. Really, it is nothing to be afraid of.
But if you chicken out, there's always Goofy's Barnstormer :teeth:

HEY!! Barnstormer is fast too! Stop laughing at me!

LOL-No kidding! The only kiddie coaster I've been on that's worse than Barnstormer is THe Flying Unicorn at IOA!

Another ride chicken here! Am hoping for Big Thunder next trip - I've been in the que a few times but have always "exited stage left".

Did Test Track last trip and hated it - I can't help slamming my eyes shut, which just doesn't work on a ride like that! LOL!

Good luck!

Years before I became a Disney freak and got some nerve, I tried two kiddie rides at a theme park called Carowinds, near Charlotte, NC. They were the "Scooby-Doo" rollercoaster..... I never opened my eyes and almost killed DH for laughing at me (have since divorced said DH).... then, with new DH I tried the very innocent sounding "Boo-Boo's Balloon Ride" and thought I would DIE! I've never been so scared in my life.

Fast forward years later when I finally got my nerve back and I've tried it all at WDW! Ok. I still scream and sometimes close my eyes, but no longer have the urge to kill....just the urge for fun!

Well just to tell you i am a recovering roller coaster coward. So far the highest coaster i been on is The Magnum XL-200 (Cedar Point, Ohio) (205 ft) and i rode every roller coaster in WDW and LOVE THEM . All you need to do is ride Splash Moutain and you conquer the highest hill in WDW b/c you can't see Space, and thunder doesn't have a hill and Rock and Roll too. And a little force (Aka a dad lol) (yes i have to admit that i still scare on Tower or Terror. GOD THAT ride is scary and i rode that 50 times and still get scared

Spiderman!!! You'd be able to do that and its amazing. There is a simulated drop at the end but its fun because you know your not really dropping just feels like it. We'll be trying The Mummy for the first time in Feb so I can't comment on that yet but everyone seems to love it. The only rides you might not want to try in Usf/Ioa is Dueling Dragons and Hulk.

Personally, I found Space Mountain very jerky. It reminded me of those old rickety coasters I rode as a kid but in the dark. Test track is cool, very fast. RnR, hmmm, you may be able to try that, its smoother than Space Mountain. Tower of Terror has a huge drop, its a neat ride but for me, scary, lol.

Space Mountain is a wild mouse coaster, similiar to Primeval Whirl at AK. Lots of quick , unexpected turns but no big drops. It can scare people because you can't see the turns coming. RnR is a launched coaster, so no big drop first to build up the speed that most coasters have. The launch is wild, but the coaster isn't that bad. Several inversions, but you can't see how high you are. I would try Space first, if that's okay then try RnR. Half of the problem for people is the fear in advance. Try some of the less intense ones first, and ride them a few times. After a while you kinda desensitize some. When I was kid I was scared of coasters. Some time in my mid-teens I started trying more of them and discovered they weren't that bad. My DH did NOT ride coasters at all when I met him, his friends coulndn't make him try them. It took the girlfriend(me) to convince him-just try it once, if you don't like it, you don't ever have to do it again. Was the Superdooperlooper actually when he got off it 'oh, not that bad, I'd do it again". And slowly he's gotten to be a good coaster rider. Now me, I'm the coaster junkie, I would love to go to Cedar Point, coaster heaven!! Just give it a try, you may like it.:)

Either Space Mountain or Rock n Rollercoaster... neither have big drops, at all!

I don't think you will find a coaster at Islands of Adventure without a big drop, but I don't know about the Mummy? Anyone????

Superdooperlooper just has one looping inversion and a person doesn't even have a shoulder harness, only a lapbar. After going on it you realize the physics of the ride and how you are pushed into your seat. It was after my almost 11yo got off that he admitted to liking it, but didn't want to go on it again until later, and then he rodes lots more times, along with his 4yo brother. Zachary (the 11yo) is working his way up to bigger and better things, but is a hesitant and stubborn person in general so it takes a while. The rest of my kids will ride anything so he needs to get with the program. ;) Actually, my DD was a lot more fearful when she was younger, but at 17 is well over that. My 14yo and now 5yo have always been daredevils. Obviously these attributes are in their genes since my kids all have the same parents.

It was more like the Space Mt type drops. It does go backwards at one point, though, and it's not just a coaster. Remember, though, my 81yo mother went on it...twice. And my 11yo liked it when we went last April.

I did want to add - Good Luck conquering your fears - I did it & mostly at WDW - the same way you are - only I wasn't afraid of Splash.... Over a couple trips to WDW, a few to our local Six Flags & Hersheypark (LOVE Great Bear!) I went from Ride Weenie to Coaster Junkie - It can be done!

I am glad I started this thread because I am thinking I can do this! lol I am going in a few weeks, so we will see if I can get the courage! :earboy2:

I don't ride space mountain that much. As other posters said, it is too "jerky" for my liking. Although the RNR doesn't have any big drops, I find it exhilerating none-the-less.

When we went for the first time in 2003, I had to help my "never ridden a coaster before" GF work her way up, and we managed to ride everything.

I personally don't care for Space Mountain that much because of the jerkiness factor, but I'll ride it at least once every trip. I feel like it just wasn't at trip to the MK without Space Mountain, y'know? ;)

Rock 'n Roller Coaster is our favorite ride at WDW. We rode it at least 7 times during our last trip. Although it's fast and there are inversions, there are no big drops. I think it's a good way of overcoming your coaster fears.

Drumflower - Have you left yet? We just got back tonight. I rode space mountain. I'm glad I did it, but it was not my favorite. It has fast turns and it is jerky. No big drops but several bunny hills in a row (made me feel a little queasy). I found that it was good to be toward the back of the rocket so you can get a little warning of what is to come. I could see the rocket start to turn in the front so I new what to expect next. All in all in must not have been too bad because the I rode it again on another day. The first time we were on the right side. The second time we were on the left side, and I think the left side was worse. I am not sure whether I will go on again. :earseek:

My DH and DDs enjoyed RNR coaster so much that after I conquered space mtn I decided to try it too. I have to say that it was great! Honestly! It is much better than space mountain. It is very smooth, not jerky, and it is over before you know it. The inversions felt interesting but not scary to me. It was very exciting. I will definately go on RNR coaster again. :Pinkbounc

Wow! I'm totally impressed that you rode RNR coaster since you were worried about Space Mountain. That's awesome! What's up next, Hulk?

Thanks! We live about 30 miles from Universal and IOA, and have never been... sad, huh? :(

I didn't ask because I am afraid of coasters, (never met a coaster I didn't like), but because I haven't been on it before.

only 5 1/2 months before I will be cleared by the doc for coasters again (had back surgery) and I CAN'T WAIT!
