Which Canon should I get?

I have had a Canon 30D for about six years. I had to send it in for service about three years ago and it was $215 to fix it. While it was at Canon getting repaired I went ahead and bought a Canon 5D Mark II (because of course it went out the week before my youngest daughter's first birthday). I had been wanting to go full frame for quite a while so I did. My 30D has worked great for the last few years but started showing 'Error 99' randomly. I did all of the troubleshooting I could and finally sent it back in to Canon last week. The estimate this time is $245. So I'm trying to figure out if I should throw more money at it and hope it works for a few more years or go ahead and just buy a new one. We are going to DW in November and I don't want to drag my heavy 5DMIi around everywhere. I'm considering the 60D, T3i, or the T4i. I'm wanting to stick with Canon so all of my zooms and primes will still work. Thoughts???

I moved from a 7D to a 5D Mk III this past year, and it's an amazing camera. The focus points are awesome, and the ISO boost is insane. I use a BlackRapid Sport strap, so weight isn't even an issue. If you can look at that camera. For Disney it really does well in low-light, and in any light. :)

The 70D is due out any time. I would expect to see some real bargains on some of those other models soon. I know there have been some great deals on the 60D already. I think the T3i and T4i are a little smaller and lighter, but you'd have to check the specs. I have the T2i and love the size/weight.

I'd say take a look at the 60D, you'll be able to get a really good deal, the only problem is the 60D uses SD cards for storage, you might want to look at the 7D (it uses compact flash like your 5Dii & 30D). The other thing that might be worth looking into is I know Canon has a loyalty program for people with broken cameras.

I second taking a look at the canon loyalty program. as far as which camera. it appears you keep your cameras for a very long time. i would suggest getting something as current as possible, either a 70D if you can wait or a 60D. This will help with the longevity of you camera. The SD card vs CF card thing maybe an issue if you're using both cameras at the same time, but SD cards are relatively cheap now, I just picked up a 16gb sandisk ultra (30MB/s) card for $13.

if you're looking for something smaller, look at the T5i or T4i.

Since the 70D was announced the 60D has really dropped in price ($550 refurb) and still has plenty of features. most things take SD cards (or micro SD) so they are plentiful and inexpensive

Since you want to go smaller and lighter I would stick to the T(#)i series or even the new Rebel SL1. The are all using the same 18mp sensor and they will be your smallest/ lightest options while still being able to use your EF-S/ EF lenses.

Someone mentioned the Black rapid strap and if you happen to take any DSLR i highly recommend this strap.

Count me as another true believer regarding Black Rapids straps. They really make carrying my cameras much easier.

Love the BlackRapid Sport with the thicker shoulder padding. Wouldn't use any other kind of strap right now, but also use a Peak Design Capture Clip on my backpack for quick storage when I want the camera higher on my person.
