After seeing the quality of the videos that my digital camera takes  I have decided to purchase a camcorder.

Any ideas on what to look for? I know I want something small but that is about the extent of it.

Thanks everyone!

I just bought a Panasonic DVD digital camcorder b/c I heard they are good. I would love to hear reviews though b/c the first one I bought was a dud and I had to return it. I am now waiting for Bestbuy.com to send me another one which I can return if someone recommends something different.

I would recommend getting a mini DV camcorder instead of a DVD or hard drive camcorder. The mini DVs have better video quality and the video is easily loaded on to a computer for editing or burning to a full size DVD.

I second the mini dv one too. If your just going to film family vacations, Christmas, birthday's, etc you can get a decent one for under $300. If it breaks, throw it away and get another one.

I just bought one because my mini dv died 3 days before Christmas.

I would recommend reading reviews on http://www.camcorderinfo.com.
Sorry to hyjack the thread but...

Thanks, this website is excellent! I used the reviews to pick out my new camcorder. I know everyone likeds the mini-DVs but I love the idea of using the mini-DVD in my DVD player. We are very lo-tech and will not really edit. I will be returning my Panasonic for the better Panasonic per the recommendation of the reviews. The Sony had high reviews too but the Panasonic is on sale at Circuit City for 35% off.

Do you have High Def Tv at home? We recently got the Sony HDR-HC3 HD camcorder which will fit in your coat pocket. Dw said it was like being there when we watched the first mini dv tape we brought back. It is really clear and worth the money if you have a good way of viewing what you record:thumbsup2

I'm starting to drool over the Canon XH A1. I haven't seen one in person, but judging by the reviews it looks very, very nice.
