Which building at Poly?

We've booked Garden View at the Poly in August. My next question: which building do we want?

I realize that some are larger than others, some have double sinks and others don't, some have balconies and some don't. My head is spinning.

(Yes, I KNOW I'll have a wonderful time regardless of where I stay. But this is next on my list of things to obsess about.)

So tell me: which is your favorite building, and why? Should I bother to make a request, or just assume that I'll end up with something great

I've only stayed at the Poly once, in October of 06, but it easily jumped to the top of my fav resorts list. We stayed in Tokelau then, and we thought it was great! It's really convenient to everything, not a long walk to GCH or the pools or the beach. I can't remember for the life of me if it has double sinks or not. I want to say no, but I can't be 100% positive. We had a third floor room so we had a balcony, and I would highly recommend that you stay third floor if at all possible. The balcony is just sooooo nice.

My aunt stays at Poly for her anniversary every year, and she said that Tokelau was a really nice location. We had actually requested Samoa, but the girl at the front desk gave us Tokelau and swore up and down that we'd be pleased with it. So we went along with her, and sure enough we were really pleased.

Whichever longhouse you choose, you're gonna love the Poly! We're heading back in July, and I'm REALLY excited! :woohoo:

I hope you have a wonderful first trip! Good luck and pixie dust! :wizard:

Fiji is like getting a water view at garden price. You can either overlook the marina - beach area, or the beach - Grand Floridian area. We actually could see the beach, marina, ferry boat, and the monorail leaving the Contemporary from our second floor room. It is very quiet and very close to the GCH where the restaurants and gift shops are located, so it is very easy to get on the monorail. The pool is also very close. We could walk just outside our longhouse to view the nightly water parade and fireworks.

we love Tokelau, due to access to GCH and TTC as well as the quiet pool (which we prefer over the volcano pool) or
Aotearoa, we had the most stunning garden view room here on our last stay, on the 3rd floor, overlooking the marina to the right, and the lagoon and GF to the left beautiful.

I would be more than happy to stay in either again.

I'm pretty sure I would love the balcony.

I guess my ideal longhouse would be both fairly convenient to the volcano pool and the TTC/ferry, with a balcony. I realize I'll be walking no matter where I stay (hey, it's Disney; we'll be walking no matter what.) But I'm thinking cranky 5 year old coming off the monorail after the fireworks.

I loved Tokelau. Great location...close to the TTC path, good quiet pool, beach at the end of bldg for fireworks viewing.
We were lucky enough to get a room on the second floor, with a view of the lagoon....at a garden view price. And a balcony.

I would go with Tokelau because it is in a central location, and there is a chance that you will have a view of the lagoon and possibly, Cinderella Castle! :)

We loved the Samoa building mainly because we could get to the GCH quick for Captain Cooks and the arcade. Our time is mostly spent at the MK so out of a 7 day trip we may go to EPCOT twice--which means we're only walking to the TTC twice. Plus we spend an obscene time in the volcano pool so having our longhouse close by is a big bonus.:thumbsup2

Tokelau is good for a central location between the GCH and the TTC.

We only stayed there once but our garden view unit turned out to be a marina water view from the Fiji building. It was nice and quiet and had a great breeze and we were super close to the main house.

We love the Rarotonga. It is right next door to the GCH and we just love the feel of it. We have stayed there every year for the last several years....

Good luck!

I think that Fiji is the best...like someone said earlier, it's like getting a water view room at a garden view price, if you're on the marina side. There's beautiful views from that building, and you're close to the GCH and not too far from the volcano pool. That would be my pick!

We always request FIJI / 3rd Floor with Balcony.
Here are some pictures from our room:

Just noticed I put 2nd floor room in my post for Fiji, it was actually 3rd floor with a balcony. The 2nd floor rooms in Fiji do not have balconies.

I have to agree with the other posters about Tokelau. It is centrally located-the Volcano pool is close; the quiet pool is right next to you; laundry facilities and the bus stop are 1-2 minutes away; TTC is about a 5-10 minute walk; GCH is about a 3 minute walk.

The second floors on most buildings do not have balconies, the sliding doors open and there is a railing there. The ground floor rooms are nice, you feel like you have a little more space when lounging outside. Third floor rooms have a balcony in most buildings if not all. :)

Fiji is the best. Either you get a view of the Grand Floridian or the marina. Both views are great.

We've stayed in Tokelau both times we've been at the Poly & really enjoyed the convenience to everything. Also, the 2nd floor also has balconies.

OK-- more questions: (And thanks for your patience!!!)

I've been looking at the map at tikiman's site.

For you Figi lovers: is it much of a walk from the longhouse to the volcano pool? It's hard to judge on the map-- it looks as though you have to walk all the way around the marina.

Right now the "votes" are even for Tokelou and Figi, with a Samoa and a Raratonga thrown in for good luck. How about the other buildings... anyone love them? How about Napa Riu (which I've probably mis-spelled bigtime)-- it has bigger rooms and is close to the TTC-- anyone want to weigh in here?

It's not a long walk from Fiji to the volcano pool. The marina isn't that big (well not wide, it's pretty long but that doesn't affect the walk to the pool.)

The Fiji longhouse is the one to the right of the marina and you can see the volcano to the left.

This is the walkway looking down toward Fiji (upper right hand corner) after coming down the stairs from the GCH. That's the marina on the right.

Thanks. From the map it looks FAR, but I know how deceiving that stuff can be. (Edited to add: those pictures are GREAT!!! I want to go NOW!!!!)

Wow... I hadn't even realized that Tokelou had Garden View rooms. If I had to choose right now (and I don't; our trip is still 6 months away), I think I would choose a Tokelou balcony room.

So guys... do people really request a particular longhouse? And are those requests frequently met?

And how would I do it? Just ask my AAA travel agent to add it on to my reservation, or do I call on my own?

We stayed at the POLY both in Jan. 07 and Jan. 08. We requested Tokelau again this year; our five rooms were 2907-2911, on the second floor, with balconies. These rooms overlook the Quiet Pool. The room 2911 is the closest to the Lagoon, and our family that had that room had the best view. There are other rooms past that (I don't know how far the numbers go). And, sorry, but I didn't look at the room numbers across the hall. The rooms we had were placed so that you turned your head to the right to see the fireworks and boat parade. Tokelau is a great choice!
