Hi -

We were able to get a good AP rate at the Disneyland Hotel for September. It has been a few years since we stayed there and we were in the Sierra Tower. This time we have a standard view room, so we cannot be in Sierra.

Would you request the Marina or Bonita bldg?

Also, since it is during slow season, mid-week, after Labor Day, schools back in session, etc. - what are the odds that we might be upgraded to a nicer view/room when checking in, without asking? If they have lower occupancy, do they tend to upgrade guests?

Thanks for your info.

I've stayed at the DLH 4 times, and only once did I request something other than a standard view room. I have never been in any tower other than the Sierra, so either they have standard rooms there too, or I've been upgraded every time.

Did they tell you that you can't be in the Sierra Tower? Sierra is the only tower we've ever stayed in because of the views. We recently booked an AP rate for September at $149 per night and we requested a "standard" view in the Sierra Tower. We like the Sierra Tower because we've NEVER gotten a bad view from there. We always get either DTD or pool view and we've never had to pay extra.

Yes, the CM (who was very friendly and knowledgeable about everything else I asked) said that I could not book a standard room in Sierra.

She said there are two views in Sierra - one is pool view and the other (can't remember what she called it) overlooks Downtown Disney area and therefore is considered a better view than standard. She said there are no standard view rooms in Sierra.

Also, I am pretty sure that while talking to another CM I tried to get them to put Sierra into our requests and was told the same information.

I thought this was strange since we only paid for standard last time and got Sierra, but it's been a few years so I thought maybe it has changed?

Now I don't know if this is a new policy or if the CM made a mistake. OR maybe they are just upgrading alot of people to Sierra and the guest doesn't realize it.

But two CM's said I could not put Sierra into my requests. Now I am confused.

Were any of you successful at getting the CM to put Sierra in your requests?

Thanks,

Rhonna

Also, I forgot to add, I also recently booked our reservation for Sept. at the $149 AP rate. So if others were able to request Sierra under the same circumstances, maybe I should try again to get them to add the request?

The only time I ever requested Sierra was when I had concierge and I wanted to be on the same floor as the lounge. That was also the only time I requested a DTD view, the rest were standard view and we ended up in Sierra. The most recent being December of last year.

I have booked a standard room at the DLH and succesfully requested and have gotten the Sierra tower. The lower level rooms in the Sierra Tower are considered standard rooms because they don't really offer much of a view. I would go ahead and call back and just have them put the request on your reservation, knowing that it is just a request and no guarantee. Then when you check in you can reaffirm your request and if you smile and are super nice and friendly to the CM checking you in, you may get bumped up. ;)

Keep trying, you should finally get a CM who will let you do this.

Yes, I would definitely call back and request Sierra. I can't believe that 2 CM's told you that you couldn't get a standard view there because I'm telling you, we've ALWAYS requested Sierra with a standard view and they've never told us we couldn't get that tower. And we've done this maybe 10 times during the past 9 years. And even though I've heard there are Sierra rooms with no view, we've never gotten one of those rooms. We always get a great view from that tower. Maybe they do always upgrade us :confused3 . I'm always super friendly when checking in, and most of the time I ask for a room high up.

As other people have said, I would keep trying until you get a CM that will do it. This has often worked for me at the DLH. But again, I have NEVER been told I couldn't get a standard room in the Sierra Tower.

Good luck!

When I last booked a standard view, I called ahead noting my order of preference as Sierra, then Marina Tower, understanding that there were very standard view rooms in the Sierra. I was assigned a 5th floor pool view in the Marina Tower (I figured this was an "upgrade"). Once before when I did not call ahead with a preference, I noted the same preference at check-in (and it was a pretty late check-in during a busy season). Then I was assigned a lower floor, parking lot view in the Marina, but it also afforded a partial view of DL and the fireworks. I think the standard view rooms in the Marina Tower offer better views than the standard view rooms in Bonita. Also, the Marina is convenient to the shops and lobby.

(I used to be able to request and get the tower and view of my choice almost every visit without paying for a view room, but that was before they started charging more for view rooms...)

We booked for December for three nights at the DLH. I booked through Disney Travel and purchased a package; no free fourth night or other discount. I requested the Sierra Tower and although they said it cannot be guaranteed, they would note my request. Maybe they noted it because we booked a package through Disney Travel?

I called again today and finally got a CM who added the Sierra Tower request to our standard view rate. Thanks for your help!

I booked a standard room at DLH last week and was also told that I couldn't request the Sierra Tower because there were no standard rooms there. The CM would not put it down as a request. I have heard that it depends on who you talk to also....that some CM's will do it and other's won't. Rhonna, it seems like that is what you experienced, so maybe I will give it another try.:)

Can anyone tell me where I can find a map of the DLH grounds? We will be staying their next month with a DTD view. I am curious to know which buildings we may end up in and if I should make a bldg request similar to Rhonna.
