Which bed for my guest room?

Which bed should I get for my guest bedroom? It's a relatively small room, so I will be getting a queen-sized platform storage bed instead of a separate bed and dresser. I have found two that I like.

This one is from Pottery Barn, and it is $1,000 (Stratton Bed with Baskets). I actually already ordered it, and it is on backorder until the end of August. But, I can can cancel my order for a full refund. I really like the baskets underneath.

This one is from Target, for $450 (Manhattan Platform Bed). Because it doesn't have the baskets, I would get the shelf ($100) as a nightstand. I won't mind doing without the baskets under the bed for the price. However, I am worried about the quality.

Hmm Well I have a pottery Barn Bed in my Daughter's room- and while I think the armoire is a piece of junk the bed is actually very very sturdy. But it is the Thomas Bed- So it is a matress kind of enclosed in a frame. The thing I would worry about in the first one is the mattress staying on the bed?Plus that looks like a GIANT plush mattress-What is it going to look like with a regular mattress on it?
But based on looks alone I pick number one.

I'd go for #2. IMO, it looks better, plus it is much more economical. I don't really like the wicker look of the baskets of #1, but that is just persobnal preference.

And since it is for the guest room, it will not be used that much.

DH have a small house with a tiny bedroom, and we're also looking at getting a storage bed so we can get rid of one of the dressers to make more room.

I love the look of the baskets, but I've heard that they aren't as practical as drawers for a bed. One friend says she has problems with dust accumulating in the baskets and they are very hard to keep clean, and she also told me that the baskets end up scratching the surface of the bed. I was disappointed to hear that, because I prefer how the baskets look, but based on the practicality issues, I'm looking for something with drawers. I thought I saw in the latest Pottery Barn catalog that the same bed now comes with a drawer option instead of the baskets, but maybe I'm thinking of a different bed.

The same bed does come with drawers instead of baskets. But I really really like the look of the baskets! We want our guest room to really look like a vacation room--I even found of the Mickey bedside lamps used at the Beach Club resort.

Also, I have a regular pillow-top mattress already for the bed. The Pottery Barn website says it recommends a rug pad or other non-slip pad under the mattress, and I can do that. The thing that bothers me about the Target bed is that it says it is made of wood-composite, which to me says particle board.

I don't like the look of the wicker baskets in #1. #2 has a more clean look if that makes any sense.

Ikea makes tons of understorage bed options. I don't think there is a store in Southwest, but I bet you could order it online.

I have had furniture from Target before and did not ever find it to be worth the price I paid for it.

Having said that, I don't know that the Pottery Barn one is perfect either.

I like #1 and yes wood composite is press wood.

I think you will be happier with the quality of #1 over #2.

And I like how it looks!

:)

I prefer the 1st one, but I don't know how practical it would be.

I agree I'd go with number 2. We do have some wicker pieces (namely a hamper we got as a wedding present) and it is really dusty. Reminds me I should try and clean it out soon.

Another option might be a queen futon with captains drawers underneath, and a inner spring mattress (they make them for futons with a hinge so they will bend).

The inner spring mattresses are very comfy--that's what DS has in his room.

It will take less room than the other two options unless you actually set it up as a bed, and can make the guest room a multi-use room rather than a dedicated guest room.

I like the look of #2 much better. The first one is way too trendy, especially for $1,000. With the extra $500 you could do A LOT of fun things to make your guest bedroom look like a vacation room.

Bumping for the daytime crowd.....because I am still really torn and DH is still dead set on the PB bed. Since everyone says the wicker baskets will be hard to clean, I'm going to make liners for them. And yes, I really like the look of the baskets!

Also, I have looked at Ikea and didn't find anything I liked.
