Which beach?

DW and I are planning on spending one of our afternoon breaks (in Oct.) from DLR at the beach. Considering traffic, aesthetic appeal, people watching, parking/fees, etc., which is the best beach to choose for a four-hour break from the parks: Seal, Sunset, Long, Huntington, Newport?

I love Newport and Huntington beach. Those are the beaches I grew up going to when I was a kid. When I go to Ca. now those are the places I go.

Those are my favs also. Huntington has a lot more parking, so that might be a good choice for a short quick trip. Walk down the pier and eat at Rubys. All around the pier is great people watching. Volleyball, surfing, fishing, kites, bikes and skateboards on the strand.( A big sidewalk that follows the beach for miles.) Another really good place to eat is the Sugar Shack which is up the street from the pier. Or for nice dining, try Dukes right at the end of the pier. Lots to do! Wish I could go now!

I used to live in long beach & it was nice then but it's been a good few yrs however I love newport beach & redondo beach...

I love Newport and Balboa Fun Zone... very fun place to spend the afternoon.

Newport and Corona Del Mar for me. Newport for the pier and CDM for the perfect crescent shaped beach for wading and boogie boarding. Both are right next to each other separated by a jetty.

You can take sunset cruises and harbor boat rides that show famous rich people's homes and boats from Newport for very cheap. It was one of the best times we had on our last trip. They took us out onto the Pacific to catch the sunset overlooking the Cali coastline. Amazing.

Huntington Beach is a really nice beach. lots of parking, restaurants, people watching etc. A great place to get a good ole fashioned shake and a great burger is Ruby's which is out on the end of the pier. HB is beautiful and if you only have a few hours is my suggestion.
Just look for Main Street in Huntington Beach on any map - Its about 25 minutes away from Disneyland. Take Harbor Blvd south (Disneyland is on Harbor Blvd) to 22 Freeway, off at Beach Blvd and go south straight to the beach.

Newport is nice too but not as compact and concise.

Seal Beach is too far and Long Beach is even farther.

Corona Del Mar was really nice because it wasn't crazy busy. The kids had TONS of room to spread out and play (might have been time of year..but still)

But I SUPER love Huntington. I agree with Ruby's..at least grab an ice cream. Lots of cute shops around there too. Tons of people watching.
