Which beach resort?

We're going over in August and would like to spend a few day's at the beach.
Would you go to the Gulf or Atlantic side and can anyone recommend somewhere nice to stay, bearing in mind we have 2 teenage daughters and a 10 yr old son.

It depends what you want the Gulf is very calm and the sea much warmer, whereas the Atlantic is pretty rough (good for surfing, body boarding etc) and the sea temperature is much cooler. Hope this helps a little.

If you can make it... try Captiva or Sannibel... absolutely beautiful.. and you've got Naples nearby.. super shopping!!

Thanks for the replies, Anna Maria Island looks great. I think we'll go to Gulf coast.
Does anyone know anything about the "Red Tides" they sometimes get in the summer.?
