I am playing around with the idea of going to Vero Beach. If we were to fly there, what airport would we fly into? Is it a hassle to get to the hotel from there? Thanks!

I recently flew to Orlando because there were more flights and the prices were better then West Palm. The drive to Vero is the same. Look for the best price and times that suit you. :thumbsup2

Orlando airport is about 95 miles, Palm Beach airport about 85. All highway either way except that last 12 miles or so from highway exit to beach is street with lights and can itself take 30 minutes or more. Allow 2 hours or somewhat more from either. Rental car is really a necessity.

Other options, although not as close are Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. For our spring break trip for 2009 we are flying into Tampa due to the much higher cost of going into Orlando or Ft. Lauderdale. Things do, however, change daily.

One thing to take into consideration is price of rental cars. I just came back from Vero Beach/Disney World (started at VB) and flew into Orlando because the rental car was more than $100 cheaper.

We LOVE Melbourne. The biggest problem is that Delta is the only big commercial carrier that flies into there and the prices reflect that. However, we have gotten really, really good deals if we book early enough. We are flying into MLB for our April trip (visit to Vero Beach and then Disney cruise) for a one-way total of $100/person. We'll fly home out of Orlando because we're finishing our trip at WDW.

When MLB isn't available, we usually book MCO or PBI, they are both an easy drive to VB, although PBI is a straight shot up 95.

Melbourne is the best little airport -and convenient to Vero! If you can find flights and prices that you can handle, I highly recommend it. We used to live 5 minutes away and I always flew to/from MLB for business trips. No lines, no crowds - very nice. However, the tradeoff is fewer flights, only Delta as a carrier (last time I knew anyway) and often higher prices.
