There has been a lot of discussion recently about pool hopping. Some of that included the concern that non-DVCers (either locals or people staying off-site) sneak in and use DVC pools, workout rooms, and other facilities.

Earlier there were discussions about non-DVCers sneaking in and filling up the BWV parking lots while the non-DVCers spent a day in the parks.

And there may be more cases of this sort of thing that need to be brought up.

So the poll is:

Which abuse of DVC perks by non-DVCers should be dealt with by DVD management first/most?

I also posted this right before the other board closed too. The problem with the BWV parking lot is that it's not the BWV exclusive parking lot or DVC's. It's the public lot for the Boardwalk itself, in addition to the resort lot. What I think there needs to be is a separate lot for Boardwalk resort guests and another one for visiting the Boardwalk itself. I spoke to the BW manager about this after the DVC meeting in December. I mentioned returning the evening before and having a hard time finding a space and the fact that most of the cars had no WDW resort parking pass (BW or otherwise). His reply was that it's a public lot for the Boardwalk, so it cannot be made exclusive to resort guests. He said there's another lot across the street for overflow, I suggested that lot be used for non-resort guests. He didn't seem to think much of that suggestion, he suggested resort guests use valet parking, it's free he said. So enforcing the parking lot rules is an uphill battle at BWV since there is really no exclusive parking priviledge for DVC or resort guests.:(

Gee , could this be a question just to get everyone riled up? Ive got a question for you all! How about , Which dvc'er abuses should be dealt with first?

1. dvc member parking in poly and jumping on monarail to go to park

2. dvc member attitude this is my home. I own this place.
i deserve a chair at bw pool even though im staying at okw. your JUST a paying guest.

This dvc mentality is appaulling just because you have a $10,000 investment in disney does not entitle you to act as if you own the whole company!

Paying guests should have all access and every right as an owner.

I think most people understand that people paying to stay at a resort have the same rights to use the facilities as people staying on points. I think what people are complaining about are those people who are not staying on Disney property at all that are doing these things.

With regards to the following questions about abuses:

1. dvc member parking in poly and jumping on monarail to go to park

I believe that this is being addressed. I know that when I was at Disney 2 weeks ago that my father in law was given a 3 hour parking pass when he went to visit some friends staying at the Poly. So, this problem is being addressed.

2. dvc member attitude this is my home. I own this place.
i deserve a chair at bw pool even though im staying at okw. your JUST a paying guest.

There are differing opinions on this one. However, my opinion is that if you're staying at the resort (points or cash), then you have priority over people who aren't staying there, including members who own there.

I don't think its perks that non-DVCers are taking advantage of ie pool hopping. I think something should be done to prevent any unregistered guests from using the resort's amenities. Its ridiculus that locals are using the facilities. Is should be stopped.

Well actually I do have an ownership interest - and I have the paperwork that says just that...............

$50,000 actually + $1,800 pa in dues. And that sum of money deserves a degree of consideration from the company. Paying guests may not be back next year. I am committed to coming back for the next 40 years plus..
(Tough though that might be - someone has to do it!)

Paying guests should have all access and every right as an owner.

I cannot agree with that. Paying guests deserve value for money for their outlay full stop. Members on the other hand have invested and are in my view entitled to receive a level of service that reflects that investment (Commitment) in addition to the set level for the paying guest.
A paying guest at OKW or Boardwalk does not pay for repairs to anything they break or misuse. Members do.

A paying guest does not pay for future upkeep and maintenance at OKW and BW - Members do

Good post Frank. I was just going to remark that many members have considerably more than $10,000 invested in DVC.

Frankly DVC owners staying on points at a DVC location and those paying cash should have the same access, no more and no less. DVC members also have the pool hopping which was offered by Disney and accepted by the member (paying big bucks). When I use my points, I am paying cash and more. So all members at a resort should have the same access, no more and no less AND DVC members staying on points should have the same access at where they're staying AND where they are pool hopping to.

If that means that I have an attitude, then I do and will continue to have. A family that goes and stays at the GF in a concierge room and pays say $10,000 for a week there has no more rights to the general GF services than a DVC member on points or a FL resident staying at a discounted rate.

And yes, it is my home too, I do own a piece as well.

Maybe the solution is....no cash guests allowed at any DVC resort. Members only. Wouldn't this solve all the problems??

No cash guests would mean no points exchanges outside of DVC. How do you think they pay for those other options? Answer, by renting the rooms out for cash.

It would also mean far higher dues, likely about 15% higher though that's just a guess.

I had not had it in mind when I asked the question, but this question has led to a discussion of paying guests vs. DVC. And it looks like that has a lot of interest -- enough so that I'd like someone to start a thread on that so that we can re-focus this one.

What I was trying to do with this poll thread was to focus on abuses of DVC by people who are not staying at any Disney resort -- locals and people staying off-site -- since those are the ones about whom the concerns have been raised in the other threads.

My intent was to try to find a single actionable item of concern that DVD might realistically have some hope of addressing, out of the wide variety of problems that were being raised in the various threads. To do this, I wanted to see which concerns garnered the most votes as being the most important thing to deal with first.

Thanks DebbieB for your helpful reply on the BWV parking.

I was very surprised to read the replys to your question! I thought when you go to our " home away from home " we should relax and enjoy! Shame on the people that take advantage of the pools and parking! They do spoil thing for many guests (DVC and Paying guests). But don't let that get ya down!
Not only did I become a DVC member because I love Disney that much but I take pride in sharing my "home away from home" with others. :D

Hi All,

I'm a new DVC owner. In keeping with the intent of the poll, I think the pool use by people staying off Disney property or the locals should be addressed first. Everyone should be entitled to a seat by the pool of the resort they are stay in.
And I agree with MeMeMouse I am proud to share my home to anyone who is willing to enjoy it as much as I.

Have a great day,
MAC3 (VWL)

I was not going to respond, but I have to admit I found this whole thread offensive. Basically, I can't figure it out. What is the point?

I think the whole pool issue will be addressed by Disney. My theory is that pool hopping will be banned! I can't see that it does anything but cause Disney grief! I think that now that they have BCV at YC/BC that pool is going to be off limits quite a lot, AKL is already off limits and so forth. The pools should be for the resort paying guests first. If you really want to use a pool you can use your points to pay for your stay at that hotel.

$10,000...hah!!!....how about $22,000, and a commitment to spend the next 40 years at disney spending $1,000 per year on passes and multiple thousands on food and entertainment during the next fourty years.....yeah i deserve a seat any pool i wish....deal with it!!

I would like to see non-WDW "guests" kept off the buses and out of the resort. Not just at the DVC resorts, but all over property. No resort guest should have to fight with non-resort guests for services. Check those resort IDs at the gate, and on the bus system too.

If we keep them out of the Poly and Contemporary lots, we DVCers will have plenty of parking :D

Just my $40,000 and 2 cents worth :)

Non Disney Resort guests that use the resorts, pools and busses. :smooth:

I do have to say after the second stay at the Polynesian Resort - Every time I passed the security gate to enter the resort, the guard always made sure we had our "length of stay sheet". Yes before this started we did see non-guests using the pools ( There was no guard at the gate for any days during both first stays ), so I can say the Poly has been addressing this issuse for the last handful of our stays there.

DVC / Paying Guest both deserve the quality of Disney that we have all come to enjoy and expect for the money we spend to stay with them. Abuse of any level only deteroiates the quality of our vacations. IMHO.
