We have visited Disney World for a 7-10 night trip for 7 of the last 8 years. This year we have decided to go to DisneyLand. It will be part of a longer trip to Southern California and because of that we aren't able to take the kids out of school. So we were thinking to go right after school gets out to hopefully beat the worst of the summer crowds & summer heat.

Reading up on the various threads I am seeing conflicting advice namely "go during weekdays!! go off-peak season!!" and then the conflicting "go when annual passholders are blocked!!" but since passholders seem to be block on weekends and peak seasons...I'm not sure what days to pick!

This portion of the trip we are doing 5 days at DL, 2 days Universal, and 2 pool days. We'll be staying within walking distance of DL with a rental car. We will driving through through LA to get to Universal those 2 days.

Here are the days with notes on which level of pass is blocked (grad nights are just based on 2017 schedule)

6/3 Sunday - SoCalSel
6/4 Monday - none
6/5 Tuesday - none (grad night)
6/6 Wednesday - none (grad night)
6/7 Thursday - none (last date for SoCalSel before summer blockout)
6/8 Friday - SoCal & SoCalSel (grad night)
6/9 Saturday - SoCal, SoCalSel, Deluxe (grad night)
6/10 Sunday - SoCalSel
6/11 Monday - none

which days would you pick for DL & why?

tentatively I was thinking

6/3 Sunday - DL
6/4 Monday - DL
6/5 Tuesday - Universal
6/6 Wednesday - pool
6/7 Thursday - DL
6/8 Friday - Universal
6/9 Saturday - DL
6/10 Sunday - pool
6/11 Monday - DL

It's after Memorial Day, which is likely to be the debut of part if not all of the resort wide Pixar event and land retheming. The differences in days will be miniscule if that happens. I'd avoid the known quantities, which are driving to USH during rush hour and the days leading up to blockouts, which would be the 4th-7th.

6/3 Sunday,
Mondays are really busy IME.
6/5 Tuesday,
6/10 Sunday
6/11 Monday

Get there early on Sunday's. They tend to be quiet in the am. Id probably go 6/9 but its really a toss up imo. And I don't know if you want 3 days in a row.

I don't know that you need 2 universal days. If you are going to do that I'd check out of hotel and go 2 days together and stay in la. Like wed/thurs. driving once is a pita. Driving twice into la on a similar trip nearly drove me bonkers.

Universal Hollywood can be done in one day. Unless you want to ride everything twice, I would suggest maybe putting a beach day in there, or there are a hundred things to do around LA. As to which days to go, that is really tough. I have done sooooo much research, and still haven't figured it out. I think a good touring plan is more important than trying to guess ahead of time which days will be less crowded.

I agree with this. 2 days at USH could easily be 1.5 days plus something else in the LA area with a hotel stay. And it will save you a ton of driving. Maybe a beach day, or half day either as part of USH area hotel or instead of 2 full pool days.

My Disney Grandkids feel USH a one-day park. I've offered two days but they stick with one.

I like to hit USH on the way into our Disney trips. In October we will fly into Burbank, arriving at 9am.

Pick up rental car and go to USH for the day. This way I only have to drive once and only one way. SCORE for me!!!

As far as when to go???? There are many opinions on this.
The one opinion most everyone has these days is.... It's busy most of the time. "Off-peak season" / low crowds is a thing of the past.

Pick the days you and your family want to be in the parks and go for it. Being flexible will help as you tour each day.

Thanks for all the responses. It helps to have other opinions. And yes, my kids will probably want to ride things twice at Universal...and our youngest won't be tall enough to ride some rides...so it always takes us longer to get through the parks because we need to go through rides twice to let both me & DH ride.

I think if your kids want to ride multiple times and your youngest takes longer, 2 days would work well for you. We went for a day, got there when they opened and stayed until closing and only rode rides once and still didn't get through them all. Didn't even make it to the lower lot at all. But my DD wanted to hang out in the HP area for a while, so that took time. Plus we saw all the shows. If you got finished early in the second day, there's the area outside, universal city walk, with lots to see too. Can't help you with which days to go because DL seems to be a crapshoot anyway
