Where's the best nightlife off property for 40 somethings?

DH and I are going down 2 days before DD (she can't miss school) Any suggestions as to things to do off property post 9PM? It will be a wed and thursday night. We've done PI both with her and also putting her at a kids club at wdw. Was thinking about about Citywalk. We've been there, but never in the evening without a youngster. I know there's another dueling piano place somehwere too. Any other suggestions?

Citywalk is great but it can get pretty rowdy! It is where all of the locals go and the crowd is pretty young, I'm 26 and sometimes I feel old there! Our next night out, we are going to try Jellyrolls (dueling pianos) on the Boardwalk, I hear it is not to be missed!!

Howl at the Moon has (or will have) dueling pianos. It used to be downtown, near the old Church St. Station, but it closed a couple years ago and is re-opening later this month on I-Drive, near Mercado. The website has an exact date, but I think it was around the 24th.

Speaking of Mercado, Cricketer's Arms is a British pub there, the guy who plays on Fridays (Jeff Howell) is great. Bahama Breeze, just a block up I-Drive, also has live entertainment quite often. Both attract a somewhat older crowd (or mixed-to-older).

As a 30-something, I still recommend you try Citywalk at least once. Pat O'Brian's is a blast, and Margaritaville has some good cover bands after 10 p.m. (not just Buffet tunes, they play rock from the 60s thru 90s). Throw in Bob Marley's and the live street entertainment and there is plenty to do, even if (like me) you feel a little too mature for the Groove. Parking is free after 6 p.m., a ticket to all the clubs will cost you $10 (or each club charges $7 at the door).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas. We've done Jellyrolls before and enjoy it, but with the opportunity to go off property and stay REALLY late, I thought we'd venture off property. What time do most the bars close? 2AM? and is there a website that shows local entertainment or lists things that might be going on - kind of like upcoming concerts? But we don't want any big buck items. Also, if we head out post 9:30, will everywhere already be packed (does this give any indication of how often we get out! LOL! I DO remember in college not going out until 10:30 or 11!

Orlandocitybeat.com is a good site to find places to go. There is also a section in the Orlando Sentinel on Friday called Calendar and it has listings of all upcoming concerts, bars in the area, restaurants, etc. I usually look at it to see what is going on at certain bars before I go out.

9:30 will not be a crowded time, especially at Citywalk. That place gets jumping later, around 11 or so but is fun anytime!

Have a great time :sunny:

I am late 30's and we love going to Pat O'Briens at City Walk. They have the dueling painos there and it is really a lot of fun. It is not an early 20's crowd that I could tell, or at least it wasn't when we were there.

Downtown Orlando has a great nightlife scene. It would be pretty hopping on both a Wednesday or Thursday night. There are tons of clubs to choose from, catering to different tastes. Most of them are on Orange, Wall Street and Church Street (the actual street, not the defunct Church Street Station). CityBeat.com, and OrlandoWeekly.com have good listings.

Downtown is pretty safe. It often seems that there are more people there at night than during the day. There's plenty of parking in the garages. And they have those bicycle taxis you can take if you want to go from downtown proper to Thornton Park without driving.

As a local, and a 20-something, my absolute favorite nightspot is the Red Fox Lounge in Winter Park. It's a small bar at the Best Western Mt. Vernon Inn on Orlando Avenue (17/92). It's an old-school lounge complete with old-school style lounge singers named Mark and Lorna. They are awesome. It's probably the only nightspot that I can take my friends AND my parents to, and everyone has a good time.

40 something, hanging on by our toes

Not Parrot heads, but liked Buffet's Margarittaville (IMO better than Myrtle Beach loc.). Also went to Bob Marley's, enjoyed the live reggae music; but was surprised by the number of small children in the club after 11:00 p.m. on a weeknight in Feb.

Buffet's crowd ranged from 20's to Seniors. Marley's started out in 30's/40's and got younger & more urban as the night went on...something to be said for being the oldest folks in the house, takes the pressure off - enjoy.

downtown Orlando has some very cool spots, but if you're not familiar with that area some of the driving/parking is confusing. we usually play 'tourist' and stay at the royal pacific or close to UO and hang at Citywalk.

Agreed. And there are some areas that a block can make a big difference, if you know what I mean.
