I have another 5 1/2 years before I can retire. I am a single income person and once I thought I could retire in Florida. Ha!! Not any more. I frequently request brochures to keep current with Florida prices, and they are suddenly out of my price range. The whole Northest coast is out of sight for me. What are singles doing to retire in the EastCoast?

I think I remember a website where you could answer a bunch of questions and find your best place to retire. What we did was draw a circle with a radius of 5-600 miles around WDW (1 day drive) first, then investigate those areas. Based on its low taxes and affordable housing (golf for DH, and birding stuff for me), it looks like Alabama's going to win when we retire.

Alabama is where a good friend of my Mom's just moved. :thumbsup2:

my grandparents bought land in arizona when they retire they are going to live there if that helps at all

Hello, fellow single person! I am wondering the same thing. I saw an ad for Beach Cove Properties in Sebastian, FL (only 80 miles from WDW  ). The homes were pretty cheap ($129,000 or so), because it was a "land- lease" community. I think what this means is that you don't actually own the land because the brochure also said that the development pays all property taxes, water bills, etc.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not, but it definitely is more affordable than other places I have scouted out.
