ok dh and i (mostly I) are planning for next years trip. we are doing 10 days and we usually do a split stay. 5 days at a mod and 5 days at a deluxe. so we picked POR FQ for the 1st 5 and are split on the next 5. we did the poly last year and i've looked it up and it's A LOT of $ to do it again. but dh likes to be on the monorail. so we are torn between Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary and the Poly. so where would you stay? we will have a car, because we go and see my dad, and sea world and other stuff.
any help or suggestions????

We have stayed at both the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. The Contemporary was amazing because we had booked a MK view. We just did it for 2 nights- we couldn't afford it for longer. If we hadn't had that view I don't know that I would have loved the rest of the resort although the monorail is convienient- there are also a lot of people not staying at the resort all day so it always seems more crowded than other resorts.

The Wilderness Lodge is beautiful and one of our favorites. We loved the layout and the feel of privacy we had at the resort.

We always have a car but rarely use it around property. DH prefers to take Disney trasportation.

Both of the resorts were about the same in going to the parks- although it took a little bit longer to get to MK from the Wilderness Lodge, you take a boat. The Wilderness Lodge definately has a better pool than the Contemporary.

If you have specific questions about the resort you can ask and I will try to answer.

We've only stayed at the WL. Even though it isn't on the monorail, I really like it. The boat ride to the MK is so peaceful.

The best part is everything is under ONE roof. No walking outside to lobby, room, food places.
The bad part is the food court is not really a food court. Just a little place to get food. I've never been to a hotel with one, but that is the complaint I hear.

thanks for your input. i mean its a big difference in price between the two. it was $2948. for the poly and $1766 for the wilderness lodge. so almost 1200 difference. and that's how much it is for 5 days at POFQ. i really love the poly but we are talking $1200. the contemporary was $2132. so like $800 between the poly and cr. i just can not make up my mind. i think dh would like the wilderness lodge. i just thought if i can book it and start paying on it now, it won't hurt as much. i think i might put it on my disney card and then get the points and have 6 mnths to pay it off w/ no interest

YIKES!! That is a huge difference!! But, if spread out over the year, it doesn't seem as bad right?

My DH refuses to hear about any other hotel. It's WL or we don't go. :confused3 Do I look like I'm gonna complain? :lmao:

I'll email you my shutterfly log in info and you can see the pictures we took when we were there in 2006. I'll be sure to let you see the new ones too. :thumbsup2

that would be so great awm!

i'm sending you a pm with my email address.

We LOVE PO FQ!!! Bubba is going to love the water serpent slide. :thumbsup2 I would have no problems staying there for the entire trip.

I have stayed at WL, it's nice but not my favorite resort at WDW. The hallways are really long and far from the elevator. But if it were WL or no trip at all, I guess I would suffer. {back of hand put to the forehead}:rotfl2:

Another vote for Wilderness Lodge! We LOVED it- so beautiful and peaceful. We saw bunnies on the lawn- big hit with the kids! If we ever get to go again, I am sure that DH will only let us stay there too! :thumbsup2

Long hallways. :lmao:
How long is the walk between buildings on the concrete sidewalk? In the rain? ;) Swealtering sun? Buzzing bees?

If you are in the wings, there are elevators there too. It is a long walk after a long day in the park. But at least it is air conditioned and no love bugs.

If I could go longer, I would stay moderate in a heart beat. I love the theme at both PO - Riverside & New Orleans. Riverside is the only moderate my sister can stay at. She has three girls. No other resort will sleep 5 for that amount of money. Aren't the Family Suites like twice the amount of a regular room?

AKL is all under one roof too, but their hallways are even longer to walk. Guess it because of the savannahs that they enclose.

You are right, AWM. An ac hallway is much better than a swealtering hot sideway. I didn't realized AKL is set up the same way. I'll remember the benefits of covered hallways this trip.:)

I am so not the outdoors type girl anymore.
I read those reports over on the resort board and it seems they all complain about how far the long houses are from the pool or the cabana buildings are from the food court or how far the buildings are from the lobby. :confused3 Don't people look at the resort maps? Hello, if Sugar Loaf is way over there and the pool you want is way over here, uhm, yup, it'll be a bit of a walk.

The Yatch & Beach clubs look like they are under one roof, but are a hike if you get an outer wing room. I think Disney wants it's guest to have super douper leg muscles. :rotfl2:

I think the worst thing about the inner walkways is that there is no place to hang the cool window dressings. Don't think they would be very safe placed on the outside of the metal door. I just don't trust people that much. :rotfl:

thanks everyone! we have been out all day and we've discussed it a few times today and i think we are going with the WL. thanks for the link Ann, i loved the pics. I think it looks peaceful. dh will be happy, because he's always wanted to stay there. i guess it should not matter where as long as i'm there right?? i just want to book it so i can start paying on it. i am one of these that has to have it paid for long before, so i don't have to worry about it. just who i am.
thanks again everyone for your opinion.

we've stayed at WL 3 times!! We love it there, and we have decided against a split stay for the next trip, so we're staying at Pop. When you walk in the lobby for the first time, it will take your breath away.

oh glad to hear the you liked it too MO2DK! i'm really looking forward to it! i know it's still 10 months away, but that will give me time to plan!

have you seen the WL photo thread??

I wanted to do a split stay again this time, but the kids (and my dh, LOL) just want to stay put. The kids had a choice between a shorter stay at WL and a longer stay at Pop, and of course, they chose the longer stay!

did you make your ressie yet??

last year was the first time we did a split stay and it really was not bad at all. it was the only way i could afford to stay at the poly. in fact last year was the 1st time we stayed longer than a week. and now i'm hooked on my 10 days!!!
we have not booked it yet, because i'm a little unsure of the dates. we picked the wednesday after ds gets out of school. but what happens if he has sn*w days to make up? and if we leave that wed. we would be flying home on 4th of july? not sure i want to do that either. so we are kinda still talking dates this week. i just want to be sure on the dates. someone my dh works with told him that the crowds are just terrible on 4th of july. so he is sold on NOT being there then. i'd love to see the fireworks on the 4th. but that's ok. we went last august and it was hotter than heck. bubba and i both got sick one day. they were taking people out of the mk on stretchers it was so bloody hot. so if i can narrow it down to some dates i'd feel better.

how about you? have you booked yours yet? are you so looking forward to it?
how old are your kids?

i will definitely check out that link. thanks for that. i had not seen it.

I can't speak about the WL because I haven't stayed there, but between the Poly and Cont I would pick the Poly. I think it is the theming. It reminds me of my Honeymoon in Hawaii. Don't get me wrong I love the Cont too! But something about the Poly just takes me to a different place.
