Considering all things such as view, freshness of the rooms and location, where would you stay in SS if you had a car:

Congress Park
The Springs
The Paddocks
The Grandstand
The Caraousel

Congress Park, car or no car, is our favorite location in SSR. We love the views of DTD and the quiet pool. Our order of preference at SSR:
  1. Congress Park
  2. Grandstand
  3. Springs
  4. Paddock
  5. Carousel

Ok I have to ask, what does having a car have to do with where you would stay at SSR? We have stayed there and I have walked the entire resort. Did not notice any particular advantage to one area over another, except for view.

Well, I wouldn't want to stay in the far out locations without a car but I would consider them with a car if they had a nice view or were fresher than the closer sections. Also with a car you may not mind not being close enough to walk into DTD. You can drive in! Same thing with the main pool and the restaurants at SS.

Oooh, I wouldn't recommend driving to DTD. Have you ever tried to park there? It is the craziest parking lot I've ever seen. No right turns and you keep getting shunted out of the very lot you want to search for a space. Marketplace's lots are always full by 10am. West Side gets just as full in the evening. So even if you do find a spot, you'll end up walking to where you want to go just as far as if you took the ferry or walked. (I've had to park at West Side just to do late night shopping at Marketplace.)

I learned this lesson the first time I stayed at SSR. It was December and I thought it too chilly to stroll over (or rather my dad did). So we wasted half an hour each trip to DTD just circling the parking lots. We've learned to ditch the van when we stay at SSR. We'll only drive if we're too impatient to wait on a bus or want to resort hop.

As for driving over to the Carriage House, keep in mind the parking nearest is 30 min check-in only. You'll end up having to find a spot outside one of the Springs buildings. There's plenty of parking, but it hardly seems worth the effort. I certainly wouldn't want to drive back from the pool in my wet bathing suit.

SSR isn't THAT big of a resort. The most you'll add onto your walk is 5-10 minutes from any given area.

The only time a car comes into play when chosing resort sections is when you consider easier access to and from the resort. Grandstand and Carousel (and the western side of Paddocks) are the closest places by road to the main entrance gate on Vacation Club Way. There's a side exit by Congress Park but if you don't know the roads well you'll end up going the DTD Lake Buena Vista route and get caught up in traffic and red lights.

I didn't vote, I find that having a car for my stay at SSR is a mute point. I have been twice to WDW with a car. Both trips, once we parked the car that is where it statyed until we checked out.

I think you need to edit the post and add a "does not matter" choice.

I am one of those who will drive into DTD. I have driven there many times. I am a veteran traveler to Disney, only a newbie when it comes to SS:) I have read several posts of people who said they would not want to stay in some of the outer sections like the Carousel or the outer Paddocks or outer Grandstand areas without a car and that is why I posted a poll, to negate that issue. So I'm really asking where would you like to stay in SS considering the view, freshness, etc.( letting people know I have a car)
By the way we like a car and always have one as we prefer to dine in many of the resort restaurants and taking the buses is way too difficult for us. Thanks again:cloud9:

grandstand, springs or congress park (kepting trying to call this house)

even with a car.

I have a car generally, but staying closer to what you want allows you to walk.

believe me walking to DTD from any of these will be faster and easier than driving to it from Carousel.

the only reason I would want Carousel is at times like these (had to put mother is a nursing home) - to get away from everything. Would not be interested in the parks - it would be just a getaway. Nothing planned - just to relax. then might go with Carousel if I get a view of the pond or woods and NOT the road. there are 2 roads here to try to avoid.

Grandstand is the first bus stop - so if you are going to the parks - that would be the one.

my nephew recently stayed at Grandstand and they loved it. he only complained about looking at the golf course - when he left his golf clubs at home...:rotfl:

We always get a car when we go down, but as others have posted, once we are there the car hardly gets used, only to go to another resort. Would not even give a thought to driving to another part of SSR, it is not that big a place, the hassle of finding a parking place would negate any purpose of a car.

Since we rarely go to DD (and when we do it's "off peak" hours), parking there has never been a problem. As to the poll--really dosen't matter. We 've done Paddock and Springs and both were just fine.

Another option for inside SSR travel would be to take the bus from one stop to the next. The Springs is the last bus stop and near most of the action- Congress Park is the 4th stop w/ path to DTD - so you could always hop on the first bus that comes along.
