Where would you stay for one night?

You really should try Priceline, especially since it is just one night. Do a little bit of research on those websites and you'll do fine.

Last year we got the Crowne Plaza in Garden Grove twice through priceline for no more than $42/44 per night. It is a nice place.

But ladies, I am such a control freak chicken! Really. But for that kind of money, I may give it a go. I will research those sites on how to bid unless you have some tips for me?


sierra, The ESS are $152 if I pre-pay before taxes and $179 to hold before taxes. That is as much as the PPH. I know which hotel it is now. It is to the side of the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn that we stayed at last October. I rememeber looking at the peeps staying at the ESS and being VERY jealous!

*When you're bidding on a 3.5* and you get rejected you add a area that doesn't have a 3.5* hotel, increase your bid by a dollar or two and try again, you have several to choose from - these DLR areas don't have 3.5* available ~ Seal Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Beach, Anaheim Hills - add just one of those areas at a time - you want either Disneyland Anaheim or Disneyland Orange. Why would I hold it against you silly?

We bought last May during our trip to WDW. 170 points at the Saratoga Springs Resort. It's perfect for us. Of course I am always looking into adding on but am grateful for now. If you are wanting to rent points, the DIS has a great DVC section and a part devoted entirely to renting. On average I see most rent for $10 a point and remember with DVC you don't pay that pesky hotel tax and parking fees. For example: a Studio during our trip at the GCV is 17 points per night. You couldn't touch even a standard room at the GCH for that. So it would be $170 a night at the GCV for a Studio. Once you go DVC, you'll never go back. The accommodations are amazing too. We have stayed at the Old Key West and Animal Kingdom at WDW and both were awesome! I cannot wait for this stay at the GCV.

As far as buying, you can buy from Disney or resale. We bought through Disney. Both have their pros/cons.

The first time we used Priceline, we stayed at Hilton for almost a week at $48/night, plus parking is about $63/night. I've looked at the DVC rental section but I thought maybe we couldn't use someone's SSR points for GCV, or can you? That's what I'm confused about. That and sending someone money and trusting that they make the reservation for you.

Thanks for explaining. I wasn't sure how that worked. I looked at the website but was wondering about saving even more money...but then there's the risk.

Yes, those rates are great. It's hard to think about paying $200/night for GCV when those hotels are so nice. But I am looking forward to being immersed in all things Disney and being so close.

My bad - when I searched I used 2 adults and 2 kids forgetting that you have 3 kids so that made a difference in the room type and price.

From what you have on hold, I would go with the Marriott suites.

The water play area at HoJo's is pirate themed. It includes a water slide, water canons, bubblers, and a huge dump bucket. Also right there is a hot tub. The one thing it doesn't have is a pool. For that, you have to go towards the back, in front of building 2, where the pool's always been.

Another trick I have learned...the Marriott has a best rate guarantee. I have actually searched Expedia and other travel websites trying to find a cheaper rate than what Marriott has on their website. This applies for all Marriott chains. If you find it on another website cheaper, make your reservation on the Marriott website and then immediately fill out their "Best Rate Guarantee" claim form and they will beat the cheaper price by 25%! My friend and I were able to do this but I haven't had a chance to do it again.

I've sent a couple of e-mails about DVC rentals. Hoping to get it for around $10/pt. DVC.request.com is $13/pt. The stay is 85 pts. so that would save us over $250. Let me know if your friend has any insight.

When we were there last September it was definitely open much later than that. We were in that area probably closer to 8 at night and kids were still running around in it. Maybe it depends on the time of year or is a new thing? I can't imagine in the summer that it would close that early.
