We check into the GCV on 6/13. We are driving from Utah to Anaheim on 6/12 and are needing a hotel that first night. AP rates are decent for the PPH if we want to stay on-property: $200 total for 6/12.

The HoJo is $150 total with taxes for their deluxe room. I haven't been to their new pool but it looks super fun. We stayed at the HoJo in 2005 and liked it.

We won't be going into the parks that night post arrival. My plan is to find an In N Out burger, eat, drop the hubby and kids, and then head to the grocery store.

$50 is $50.

We will have to drive over to the GCV in the morning to drop bags and check in so while the PPH is closer, I don't think it matters much as we'll have to drive regardless.

Where would you stay and why? I added an "other" option in case.

I know some might say stay at the GCH but spending upwards of $275 for one night? Not interested especially because it won't save all much time in the morning, or will it?

ETA: We could stay at the Anaheim Marriot on Convention way as well for $115 including taxes and parking. :upsidedow

When we needed a place for just the night, checking out very early so we can take part in the first MM our PPH stay offered us, we used hotwire.

I was going to stay at Motel 6, b/c the one in Anaheim is actually fairly nice and was newly renovated (first in the chain to get the new "Euro" look). It was about $50. Then I started poking around betterbidding.com in their hotwire section (I'm not brave enough for priceline, but that site also has lots of info on priceline) and started looking on hotwire...with the help of the info on betterbidding, I realized I could get the Hilton at the Convention Center or the Hyatt (if memory serves) for about the same cost as Motel 6. Also b/c of betterbidding, I knew those two hotels that were the possibilities from the description offered, and was able to check out their websites so I knew in advance that both have hefty parking fees, so I wasn't surprised at checkin.

We did get the Hilton for that one night, I thik it was $54, plus the parking fee. Nice hotel! But we checked in around midnight and checked out around 5, to get over to PPH to check in so we could go to the 7am Magic Morning. :)

So I would do something like that, or maybe just stay at Motel 6 in the future, b/c of no parking fee and I'm intrigued. :)

re: HoJo, just to make sure it's clear b/c we all tend to use shorthand...the new area isn't a pool, per se. It's a water play area with a kiddie pool and a jacuzzi. The only proper pool on the property is the one that's always been there, in the garden area away from the fun water play stuff.

I haven't ever hotwired or pricelined. I think I am too nervous for that. :hyper: But wow, great rates and very tempting!

I thought the HoJo was a whole new pirate pool area. Thanks for the info!!! That matters for sure.

We will have a few more hours than you did but not many, basically 7 pm- 6 am if they have MM on 6/13. :thumbsup2

I'd stay at a cheaper place if it was only for 13 hours. We stay at Desert Inn & suites but if I were moving the next morning, I'd stay further from the park where it is less expensive. Your $50 savings might be more like $150. have fun. We will be there the week before.

We are in the same predicament, so I just did Priceline "name your own price". You can pick how many stars you want the hotel to be and what you get will be at least that. I put in $50 for a 3 star hotel and got the Hilton which is 3.5 stars. I was happy! Now I wish I would have put $40!!!!!

I voted for HOJO but I would say price the other hotels along Harbor Blvd or even further away down Katella or the surrounding area since you aren't going to the parks until the next day. I think you will be able to find a better deal then $150 at HOJO.

Back in the college days, my friends and I would stay at the Super8 around the corner. 2 adjoining rooms for $50 each. Walk to the park and have breakfast on the way. The only thing we used the room for was sleeping so it didn't need to be fancy. It's about $60/night now (weekdays).

Have fun- looks like you will be the crowds! :thumbsup2 That is a good idea about being a little further away.

The Anaheim Hilton for $50? :woohoo: Awesome! Were you scared? Do they have a fridge in the room?

I bet you are right about saving more- I just love being so close. I grew up in Cypress, about 15 mintes down Katella and they have a few hotels. That might be a way to go.

Do they have a pool? Not sure the hubby will go for that though, his crazy sister stays there. ;)

The water play area at HoJo's is pirate themed. It includes a water slide, water canons, bubblers, and a huge dump bucket. Also right there is a hot tub. The one thing it doesn't have is a pool. For that, you have to go towards the back, in front of building 2, where the pool's always been.

I have to agree that for the little amount of time you are looking to spend at the hotel, I would save money. If you have a car then definitely give priceline or hotwire a try. We love priceline when we know the hotels that will probably come up are all acceptable. The disneyland 3.5* and 3* hotels offered on priceline are all great (but do have parking fees) so I say SAVE the money and use it towards something else (like souveniers or special treats/meals). Here is an idea of the hotels that come up on priceline -- Not guaranteed but taken from the biddingfortravel website. :)

Personally, I would do the Paradise Pier Hotel. We rarely go to DL though, so staying on campus is very important to my family. That way, you can check out another Disney property before moving to the Grand.

I voted for GCH only because I can't even imagine what a PITA it would be to move to another hotel.

We were in the same quandry on our last trip. We ended up just biting the bullet and staying at PPH the extra night. I think it would have saved us like $100 to stay at HOJO but I just did NOT want to deal with moving.

I'd look for someplace that includes freebies like cooked breakfast, cocktails, etc. I like a nicer hotel so I'd probably stay a little farther away and get a suite and/or the freebies.

:thanks: Unless the HoJo releases the 50% AP or 50% Ent rate, I will cancel.

:thumbsup2 Good idea. I like the cocktails idea. I am leaning towards the Anaheim Marriot for $115 total.

We'll have to move regardless into our 2 bedroom villa in the morning. The only thing that wouldn't have to move is the car. It's very hard to pay almost $300 a night for a standard room when we own DVC. :goodvibes

We have been there and LOVE it! :cloud9: DH loves it too!!!!

Great hotels! How much have you paid for the 3.5 stars?

Okay - throwing in another suggestion. Do you or any close to you have Starwood points? The Sheraton Park Hotel on Anaheim is a great off-site hotel and if you know any one with Starwood points, it is a steal at 8000 points for a club level room! Otherwise, cost is $283 so comparable to GCH but at Club Level.

Or what about the Embassy Suites South? I saw King Suite at $135/night (non-refundable) or $155/night (refundable). Great happy hour and hot breakfast, easy drive the the VGC.

I would use Priceline. We have bid on 3 1/2 stars and got Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Hyatt Regency for under $50/night. There are websites out there to help you with the bidding. Try betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com.

I don't know if I know anyone with points. I totally forgot about the Embassy Suites!! My hotel sbob friend always stays there when they go to Disneyland. :rotfl2: Is the South one the one with the Jungle theme? :thanks:

:thumbsup2 Those are FANTASTIC deals. You have raised my interest with rates like that.

I know I am a total freak! What would I do without you all? Dh is ready to throttle me. :rolleyes1

You really should try Priceline, especially since it is just one night. Do a little bit of research on those websites and you'll do fine. :)
