Hi Guys,

I posted this on the DVC board too but I am wondering what you guys think too?

DH and I are going in September for his 40th birthday I just called and the resorts have availablity during that time but the big question is where would you stay?????

BWV-we love it, that is were we own. Love the idea of walking to Epcot just DH and I for a drink and relaxing. But we didn't know if we should try something different to make this trip without kids special.

SSR-never been, sounds nice but I didn't know if we would miss not being able to walk anywhere and if it would be to quiet.

WL- same thoughts as SSR

BCV- the kids would kill us

AKL- ditto... the kids would kill us

What would you do????

I would do BCV or BWV because you will be there during the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot and it will be easy just to walk right over there. Plus there is the night time entertainment on the Boardwalk.

Our favorite deluxe resort is BC. We requested to be on the end close to EPCOT. There is nothing like taking a 2 minute walk to get through the gateway and looking out to see the sunset lighting over the lake with the BW lit up in the background.

That said, I chose POR for my 40th b-day resort. We loved it!!! DH loved it more than BC! :confused3 He loved the walkways and the boat ride to DTD. It was a great place to stay and super relaxing!! The only thing we missed was the walk to EPCOT, but for all the peacefulness of it, I wouldn't change it for anything!!

I own at OKW and I love it, it's "home" to me like no other resort is. When I took DH for his first time a few years ago, he liked OKW...but he loves WL. It's the lobby, it's killer.

Now that sounds fun. I want to go now.:lmao:

How about BLT though? It is new, close to the restaurants and lounges at the monorail resorts.

Claire ;)

BCV. The heck with the kids! ;)

I vote AKL. The heck with the kids! ;) (But then, my DH is the one who wants to start a giraffe rescue farm if we ever win the lottery.) :rolleyes1

Beyond the "where to stay" - maybe think about springing (if the funds are available) a surprise geared toward one of his interests? I.E., parasailing, driving experience, golf, diving at Living Seas, a Breathless cruise, a "behind the scenes" tour, etc.? If he's a foodie/wine lover, you're all set if the Festival is goin' on.

Be creative & have fun!

If you're going to be there in September when the Epcot F&W Festival is going on, then you are just a short and lovely stroll away, through the lovely International Gateway, if you are at the BCV. Not to mention all the fun nightlife on the Boardwalk, which is also a short stroll away. We stayed at the BC on our honeymoon, so it always says  to me. ;)

The VWL are also lovely...very serene and picturesque, and there are some lovely wooded trails to stroll. You're a short hop from the Contemporary where there are some good restaurants and some good shopping.

The whole African theme of AKL doesn't appeal to me...I have stayed there. it was OK, the animals were interesting to watch for a bit, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

I also like the lushness of OKW personally, and the fact that the Hospitality House area is like a little town. And I love the little boat to DTD.

Stay wherever you like. It's your vacation and what you do with it is your business. Since it will be the first time without kids, I do suggest a resort that is more adult than the AS's and Pop.

Dh and I wanted to stay at AKL too but decided the kids WOULD kill us! That has been a dream vacation for our family in the making for a few years. We have the going to disney fund and the AKL fund we contribute to each month.

We originally were booked at the WL and it the end cancelled and took a moderate but it sounds like you will have a wonderful time booking one of the resorts closest to the FW event at Epcot.

And trust me, those leisurely strolls without the kids, doing all those things you can not do with the kids calling the shots...well...it will be remembered for a lifetime! I love all our WDW trips but the one alone with DH will be remembered as the best for me...just don't tell the kids!

Food and Wine starts September 25 this year.

I would do BWV with my DH. I stayed there solo on a trip last year, and decided if I ever came back with DH (who isn't a big Disney fan), I would stay there. I love the boardwalk with its activities. I loved strolling to Epcot and to DHS and just the way the place felt. I really liked the decor of BWV. We own at BCV but I prefered BW.

Definetly an Epcot resort. The heck with the kids. This is your and DH's time.

For my 40th birthday, we stayed at the Swan with a Nurses discount. We spent my birthday evening at the ESPN club watching the Steelers beat up on the Packers. It was alot of fun.

IMOP, its the best location for a couples only trip no matter where you and DH spend his birthday.
