Where would you rather go? Vegas or New York?

We are trying to plan a trip for June and we have narrowed it down to either Vegas or New York. My DH loves to drive instead of fly so we will be driving:rolleyes:  anyway I have been to both places although its been about 10 years since I've been to Vegas so a lot has changed.

Here are my thoughts,

1. Vegas/Grand Canyon

The drive is horrible! Driving through Texas and New Mexico and Arizona there is nothing....and I mean nothing, no trees, NOTHING for hundreds of miles. Now the Grand Canyon was gorgeous and I would love for J.C. to see it. Vegas is also something to see although we aren't gamblers. And in my mind if we go West there is a definatly possibility that we could have a few days to go to Disneyland (which honestly is the only appealing thing to me about going west.)

2. North/New York

We went to New York a few years ago and didn't get to do nearly enough. To me it was wonderful! There is so so much to see and do there. Plus I have friends in this area who have promised to show me around if I ever come there. Its also close to Washington which I am very familiar with because of my fathers Republican Party days when we would spend a lot of time in D.C. sight seeing while daddy was at the White House or at meetings. I love D.C. and it never gets old.

I know it sounds like I have made up my mind...I would much rather go North....but if it was your choice where would you choose?

from NY - I'd pick Vegas. But it does seem that you have made up your mind!!!;) When do you plan on comming to the area??

Hi Tony,

Well I guess I see your point:)

In June is when the trip is planned, we don't have any dates ironed down yet. We only got to see N.Y.C. one day and that wasn't nearly enough! I only got to go to WWF for an hour

Seriously though I found New York City amazing! There is so much I would like to see and do there. A Broadway Show being right up there at the top of the list. We only saw the Statue of Liberty from a distance and I would love to actually go to the island!

Vegas, but I would change my mind to NYC if it meant I got to meet Hes.:teeth:

Not true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a ton of scenery in NM and AZ, and if you take I 40, Texas isn't bad and goes by quick. There are plenty of things to see, Tubak AZ is a small Taos, NM. NM has mountains, cities. There is a huge metro area of Tucson and then there is the Valley of the Sun. And Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Canyon de Chelly (pronounced shay), Slide Rock Park, and on and on. I would pick Vegas because it's a short drive for me, I wouldn't want to do NY in the heat and humidity. I live in the DC area 30 years, and it is a very nice place to be from. I like Vegas, it is always "on", lots of action and you don't have to gamble. But you can do it all in a few days (or less) I think you need a lot longer to appreciate NYC.

JMO - I am sure there are others with good reason to stay out of Vegas and that area.

Here is an idea Beth..you could do both in one trip...
The New York Hotel in Vegas ;)

Right now the only direction I would consider traveling is due south or Southwest...to the sun :)

Come on down Patrick....its about 60 here and the sun is out! Of course I would put up with the snow anyday if it got me out of Mississippi!!:)

Another thing I'm thinking is that we can drive to New York in two days and get there early the second day. If we choose Vegas we are talking about at least 2 nights on the road.....heck I say forget it and go to Disney but DH wouldn't go for that. I'm pretty sure I will lose the fight and we will end up in Vegas anyway. My DS wants to see the Crater and I will admit the Grand Canyon is gorgeous I just hate that drive.....maybe since I'm not 18 anymore it will be different. I do remember Albuquerque and Flagstaff being pretty...just the in between.....I also remember I was amazed because on the way to Laughlin/Bullhead City it looked almost like we were the only humans that have ever been there. It was so undeveloped which was a nice thing to see. I don't know...LOL! But the idea of Disneyland does make it sound loads better.

I hate driving anywhere though, I would rather just take a plane and be there and enjoy......I wonder if they would let me fly out and then meet me in Vegas;) ;)

I would rather go to New York. I want to see the NY City Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc There are too many things I didn't get to see the first several times I was up plus my children have never been there.

If it was just you and John, I would say Vegas. Since J.C. is going also, I vote for NYC. And if you come to NYC, I'm a good tour guide :)

Vegas

There's really no place like it....:D

I'm two hours from NY and I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, I'd say Las Vegas.

I'd go to Vegas, personally, but I'd be leaving DS with one of his grandparents. :teeth:

Maybe it is because I have been to NYC so much, but it would be Vegas all the way for me.....and meeting Kitty would definitely be a plus ;)

New York, no question. I love all the museums and the Broadway shows. I also just love walking around the city. I'm not really a fan of Vegas.

Without a child, I'd choose Vegas in a heartbeat. With a child, unless you plan on doing lots of stuff OUTSIDE the city I would choose New York. Vegas just is NOT a destination for families, despite their attempts to market it that way. I just spent the last two weekends there and saw WAY too many unhappy kids being carted through casinos on their way somewhere else. Sure, there are a FEW kid things to do but not nearly enough to occupy more than a couple of days in Vegas.

If you plan on turning it into a Western America trip, great, but if you planned on the majority of the time in Vegas then I'd go with New York.
