Where would you like to see a DVC resort next?

I think a better question would be -

Where else would you BUY points if DVC built there?

IMO, there is a big difference between buying and visiting. Disney makes the big money on the sales, not 7 month visitors, LOL. :teeth:

Great point! I completely agree ;)

I don't care much for the Cape..
Putting my personal preferences aside, the Cape & Islands seem far too seasonal for a DVC resort. I mean.. Who is going to go when it's below zero and we are having a blizzard?

Depends what they do with the resort.

In the Wisconsin Dells, many resorts build an indoor water park, outdoor water park, and amusement areas. During the summer the outdoor areas are popular. During winters these resorts are often booked full on weekends.
Some do extremely well, others are hit/miss. Really depends on their business model.

Interestingly, one of these resorts, Kalahari, did a tremendous amount of research at AK and AKL.

Another one of these Wisconsin Dell resort companies is partnering to bring one of these resorts near DL.

It's amazed me that Disney hasn't caught onto the popularity of these indoor/outdoor water parks. At the theme parks, I understand it's bad for business, but it many companies are finding it's a hit in many parts of the country.

While Disney certainly has the ability to create such a place, I still don't see the draw. I can't imagine driving several hours in winter weather to visit an indoor water park, in a beach town where most stores and shops are closed for the season.
When the summer rolls around, people will be on the beach and strolling around. I don't see an indoor water park being popular in the summer.

That said, I've been wrong before...

I agree. They should only build DVC resorts in places that can provide a year round alternative to WDW. Otherwise all we are doing is inviting more competition for shorter notice vacations.

I think the caribbean is such a place. It makes perfect sense and not only would it be a place that the actual owners will love visiting many of us would line up at 7 months for a shot at it too.

10 years ago, I would have agreed that a place like this would never make it.

Wisconsin Dells was a great summer destination, but dead in the winter. The indoor water park and indoor amusement park concept has changed the Dells area. During the summer, the Dells is jam packed. During the winter, it tends to be quite with the exception of these escape the winter resorts.

In the Dells, these areas don't draw the full week visits that are common with traditional DVC. Instead it tends to be long weekends, birthday parties, etc.

I agree that families wouldn't drive several hours just to go to an indoor/outdoor water park with an indoor amusement park. The market would be regional, not national.

I do doubt Disney would build something like this. They typically struggle to understand a market when it's targeted at regional visitors. For reference, see Tokyo, Paris, and Hong Kong theme parks and issues they encountered when they built there.

I think that stand alone DVC resorts will really have a tough time, including Aulani. HH does well during the summer but percentage of the villas are booked in the winter? Vero Beach is similar, but with the next hurricane, fans will drop it on the resale market like a hot potato.

I think that a connection to WDW or Disneyland would make sense. Another DVC resort at DL would strengthen the DVC at that locale. But it needs to be on DL property and that's a problem. It's a shame that the DVC didn't get the entire new wing addition to the Grand Californian it is such a beautiful resort.

There are so many posts here on the DisBoards about how many are interested in a DVC at the Poly or Grand Floridian. There definitely is room next to the GF so that locale makes the most sense.

I called this morning. Hilton Head is completely booked for the Wednesday and Thursday of Thanksgiving week.

I know that is not all Winter, but HHI does do a brisk Fall business. PS, I love HH in Fall.

In order of preference
- South Lake Tahoe (on Nevada side / Casino)
- Aspen/Vail
- San Diego
- Times Square
- Yellowstone
- Grand Canyon
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Tokyo Disneyland
- Paris Disneyland
- Shanghai Disneyland
- Hong Kong Disneyland
- Sydney
- New Zealand
- Vancouver
- Bora Bora
- Kauai

In order of preference
...- Yellowstone
...

Considering Yellowstone is pretty much shut down most of the year, DVC wouldn't do very good there. They would need to build outside the park at either West Yellowstone or Gardiner since those are the only roads open even partially during the winter months.

I agree. I like to go to the Cape every once in a while in the summer, but that's, sadly, just a few short months out of the year.

I'm not that crazy about MA, and I live there! :scared1:

I agree. The caribbean would be a great option. :thumbsup2 My vote would be for Turks & Caicos, but I'd go anywhere in the Caribbean.
