Where would you go? Trying to plan a trip.

I'm trying to think of somewhere new I can take my daughters (10 and 13), hopefully not spending a fortune. Here are some things to consider:

I work for an airline. I'd like to be able to fly there and back in a day (done this a few times. Makes for an exhausting day, but sure is fun!)

Must be easy to navigate once I get there. Safe public transportation would be nice, but would be willing to rent a car if it's pretty easy to get around.

Tell me what there is to do once we get there.

I don't have a date in mind yet. Would love to hear about your destination even if it is super cold right now. When is the best time to go?

Chicago, Washington DC, Ohio-Rock n Roll hall of fame, Indy, St. Louis, how's that for a start? hope that helps. I have been to all these but Ohio and Washington DC, our family used public transportation after getting off Amtrak, we have also flown in to O'Hare and taken the train downtown. it was very safe. have fun!

Mall of America? You can fly into Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, hop on the light rail and take that over to the mall (it drops you off in the underground parking lot there). You can shop, eat, go to the park formerly known as Camp Snoopy (they lost their licensing agreement-they are calling it the Park at the Mall of America or something like that now).

Boston is a great city! Fun and educational, with very easy-to-navigate public transportation.

Chicago is great with kids. A ton of fun museums,( you could see the original Sue) two zoos, if you ar coming in the summer the lakefront is nice for a break. There's all ways some kind of play suited for young adults in the area. Pretty easy to get around if you rent a car, if your not comfortable with that and are staying in the surrounding area (recommended) You can take the train and then a taxi to anywhere.

I would have to second that Chicago is a GREAT place to take kids........we used to live there and miss is alot !! we still go up 4-5 times a year.

The Mall of America sounds like a great idea for a 'day trip', but don't know how long your flights would be....could eat up a good part of the day (pretty much the same thing with a Chicago destination).

I've done a day trip to SeaWorld in San Diego. We took a taxi from the airport to SeaWorld....it's so close. We did it as a break from the heat in Phoenix and it was wonderful

The arch in St Louis is fun, you probably need a car there. Botanical Gradens too, and the Market is a nice diversion, kind of just another mall though.

It's 35 miles from Rapid City SD to Mt. Rushmore. Could be a nice day trip.

Philadelphia - one that hasn't been mentioned yet. You can take the train right at the airport and get into town from there. Explore Center City and the historic sights or hit one of the big museums.

Hi - for Washington DC, you could fly into Reagan National Airport. There's a metro station (subway) at the airport - from there, the city is at your feet.

You can go to the zoo, the Woodley Park - Zoo Metro station is 5? blocks away from the zoo (sorry, they're long blocks and the zoo its kindof uphill from the metro station, so the walk there can be tedious on hot muggy days, but once you're there, it's great.)

When you know your day, arrange for free tickets to the Giant Panda Habitat to see the new baby panda

What are your girls interested in - there's something for everyone at the Smithsonian. You could spend a day there just visiting a couple museums and they're free

Hi, dh is an airline pilot although hates to nonrev spring and summer and holidays for family trips due to the high loads, so all our trips have been in the fall (with the exception of two), but I think I'm talking him into taking the kids to California for 4 day trip during their Spring Break (crossing my fingers). You're pretty close to Cal. so maybe you've been there alot but after looking into things, there's so much to see and do across the whole state that I bet you would have fun
