We are getting into Disney around 3:30 pm , staying at BLT. we have 5:30 pmreservations at Chef Mickey's and plan to just hang around the resort the first night. Does this sound good to you? (the mixed reviews about Chef Mickey's are making me nervous!)

I personally dont think CM's food is very good. However, the characters are pretty terrific. Very entertaining. My son and I had fun. I think its worth a try at least once in your life. You do get to see the fab 5 afterall. Just dont go there with high expectations re: food, and you'll be fine. :)
Just remember, everyone has a diff opinion on food. Some love CM's, some hate it. You will always hear varying opinions about a place.

There are many good reasons to go to Chef Mickeys. The food is not one of them. I'd say it's about on the order of Golden Corral; for me, not terrible but not great. Go with that in mind and you can have an enjoyable experience there.

I agree with both posts above. CM is never about the food. It can be a nice transition into the world of Disney to start off your vacation, and it can take the pressure off of chasing characters around the parks since you will already have seen most of the "bigggies" and gotten your photos. A word of caution, however. If going to CM is a high priority for you, be very careful about making your ADR only a few hours after your scheduled arrival, (if you are flying). One bad thunderstorm or a "light that won't go off in the cockpit" and your schedule will be blown to bits. I always make a point of planning my first evening as if I might not make it in until midnight. I never schedule a "must do" on arrival day.

We ALWAYS start or end our Disney vacations here! We ALWAYS have fun! :goodvibes

I would not go to Chef Mickeys, the one time we ate there the food was just horrible.

I would go to The Wave, Citricos or Grand Floridian Cafe if you wanted to stick within distance to your resort

Agreed - it's all about the atmosphere and tradition - but the food is horrible. I'm just glad my kids are too old now for character meals so we don't ever have to take them there again! Last time we went even they thought the food was gross - and they love mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. How can you mess up those things? It was pretty dirty and messy in there too.

We did what you are doing: stayed at CR, getting there around 2:30, with a 5:45 ADR at CM. After that, we went to MK for the evening, just taking our time and riding whatever we came to in Fantasyland & Tommorowland. We just wanted to get a taste of what we had to look forward to for the week!
