When we board ship shortly after the shuttle will be launching, anyone do this previously and know where best place to catch it is?:confused3

Good question...there's a launch scheduled for a few days before we go, and I'm really hoping it'll be delayed!!

We watched a rocket launch from the beach in Cape Canaveral a few years ago. Very, very cool! One of those "must see" once in your life kinds of thing.

Go to google earth and look at the Port Canaveral area. See where the ships are? The Disney ship is the one furthest to the left. See those parking lots on the left side of the road. Thats where I would go. Remember you don't need a clear view of the pad, you won't find one anyway. Don't wait for the sound to be the signal that it has launched, it will be well on its way by the time the sound gets there.

I would be concerned about traffic. I have heard that it is very congested around launches. Be careful not to be late.

Enjoy! I'm envious.

I have tickets for the shuttle launch on 10/23 I hope it doesn't get postpone.
If your on the ship which I'm not sure you will be by the time the launch goes there are windows in the wait area which some one there should be able to tell you which one to look out of to see it. But if your on the ship then you should be able to see it almost anywhere on the top deck I would think. Good Luck and have a graet cruise

I beleive the launch is at 1:30 before we leave Cape Canaveral. Hoping we can get a table on top by beffet and see it from there.

We were on the cruise on 7/1/06 when there was suppose to be a launch and it was scrubbed 5 minutes before take off. I was sooooo mad. We sat through traffic going 5 mph---not kidding---just to have the thing scrubbed. Traffic is horrible until about the last toll booth. Leave extra time! I don't care how cool it is, I will never intentionally book on a launch day again.

A few years ago we stood in front of the Radisson, and had a great view of a rocket launch. Very exciting!

We were planning on leaving Disney around 9:00 to there at 10:00. Will the traffic be bad between 9-10?

Hi the launch that was scheduled for 10/20 has been rescheduled so you won't have to worry about extra traffic. The launch is currently scheduled for 10/23

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO My son was so excited!!!:headache:

We went down a day early to catch the August Endeavor launch. We watched from Titusville and it was a great view. The whole experience was really great. We just followed the advice on this site:

We got there about 2 hours prior to the launch. It was busy at that point, but we still were able to find a good spot.

Good Luck!

We were excited about this too and then very dissappointed when we learned it was rescheduled. The one good thing about this is we won't have to contend with all that extra traffic. Who knows maybe it will be delayed and launch on the 27th when we get back.

We had the awesome opportunity to see the rocket that was launched to Mars take off (Jan. 2006) from DCL.

We saw it from the back of the ship (Beach Blanket Buffet - I think that's the name of it, it's one of the places you can eat lunch when you first board).

Across the bay, you could see the NASA buildings, where it's launched from. You get a pretty good view from DCL.

When we cruise last, one was scheduled. DCL delayed the lifeboat drill, delayed the sail off and invited everyone to deck 9 and 10. We all went "up top" for Rachel to come across to say it had been postponed and would not lauch. :sad1:

The thing I want to tell anyone that wants to see a launch, you have to be very prepared for the mass of steel that will keep you pin down for what it seems for hours - a non-manned launch is easier as far as traffic goes - believe me you will be astounded as I was the first time I saw a lift off.
JUST BE CAREFUL FOR ACCIDENTS AND ROAD RAGE TRIPLES.
Always

I understand being frustrated when a launch is scrubbed, but please know it is for the safety of the shuttle crew and the shuttle. We don't want to lose another crew. :sad1:

And I'm a member here :-)

Yea, this will give you what you need to know:

Click on shuttle viewing.

The Oct. 23 launch is 11:38am. It gets about 25 minutes earlier per day if they delay it. Titusville is the best free place to view it, but if you are tight on making your cruise ship then just go to Port Canaveral by the terminals and view it. It's farther but it might be a best choice so you don't fight traffic and are late to board :-)

Any chance of seeing this from the wonder on it's sea day?

Oct. 17 Delta 2 • GPS 2R-17 (M4)
Launch window: 1223-1237 GMT (8:23-8:37 a.m. EDT)
Launch site: SLC-17, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida

The United Launch Alliance Delta 2 rocket will launch the fourth modernized NAVSTAR Global Positioning System Block 2R military navigation satellite. The launch will be run by the U.S. Air Force. The rocket will fly in the 7925 vehicle configuration. Delayed from Sept.
