We are in Orlando - Disneyworld for my daughter's birthday in early August . She will be 15. We are going on a cruise the next day. What would be a good restaurant to take her with her family? We have never been to Disneyworld so am not familiar with any dining at all. Any suggestions?

You could try Chef Mickey's. It's a buffet and has Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy walking around. Every half hour or so, music comes on and everyone has to swing around their napkins. It's so much fun! We always have to eat there on our first night of the trip!

Fifteen, hmm need to know more about her. What does she like? Girly, girl? Athlete? Into Disney characters? Too cool to be bothered? Drama queen? Aren't teens just the best, never know what you'll get..lol

Coral Reef at Epcot (need park ticket to get to this one) is like dining underseas with full wall aquarium. Upscale menu and wonderful chocolate dessert. Would be a very cool story to tell friends back home. :cool2:

Whispering Canyon or Sci Fi(MGM, again gotta have park tickets) seem to be fun with meat and potatoes type of menus. hip place for teens :thumbsup2

Character Meals: Princess meal at CRT or 1900 Park Fare (served at GF Cafe during your visit), not so cool, but if she likes do it. She won't be your little princess much longer..:sad2:

Given that you'll be on a 24hr buffet the next day, :lmao: a regular sit down meal might be just the thing for you

You can have a birthday cake arranged for any restaurant. It requires a little advance planning and calling--but would be worth it.

I doubt that a 15 yr old is big into characters, so I'd take her to a nice resort restaurant. Jiko @ the AKL is upscale and "different" enough to be interesting. O'Hana @ the Poly has a fun dinner. It's very relaxed with decent food--maybe she would like that? You can take a gander at the restaurant menus to see if they have anything that you think she would like. I bet she'd be so NOT expecting a birthday cake while on vacation!!:cake:

We are celebrating my sons 15th at the Coral Reef. Having a diver hold up a sign. I figured it was more "mature"

First, I'll say that I celebrated my 15th birthday with dinner at Cinderella's Castle. It's a lot more expensive now, but, as far as experiences go, it's really very cool. (That assumes you'll be in the Magic Kingdom, or able to hop there from another park, and that she'd like that sort of thing.) There's just something about the castle.

If she likes the idea of foreign/adventure travel, you might try Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You wouldn't need park tickets for that, and the lodge itself is fun to visit. Yoiu could do breakfast if you prefer. If you are at Epcot, pick from the countries there if there's one that interests her (i.e. Morocco, Japan, Norway). Each country's pavillion has a restaurant. You'd need to use a park ticket for that, of course.

If she's a sports nut, you can visit ESPN Zone at the Boardwalk resort for dinner, and then wander around the boardwalk afterwards.

For a kid with elegant tastes, maybe tea at the Grand Floridian resort?

Like one of the other posters mentioned, if you want a party atmosphere, try Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary for dinner with the characters. (They also do breakfast.) Or, for a more grown up spin on the party idea, try Raglan Road at Downtown Disney. No park tickets required, the band is crazy good, the food is nice, and it will definitely have a more grown up feel. And, in addition to being at Disney, it's an Irish pub, so it's definitely geared for family members of any age.

I also like the earlier idea of ordering a cake for her. (You can do this at almost any restuarant, though perhaps not at breakfast.) The small cakes are not really all that expensive. It's also a lot of fun. Some restaurants will add things like Mickey confetti on the table if you tell them it's her birthday.

What a fun decision! Enjoy your trip!

If you would like a nice sit down restaurant or a make her feel special day I would say go to the Grand Floridian there are several options. Even a grand afternoon tea. Citricos is really nice and just a step down from the highest level of Victoria and Alberts. Also at the GF you can get a small cake ordered with a white chocolate castle topper or the white chocolate Cindy's slipper dessert. Pics can be found on the birthday cake thread.

I agree that a lot depends on her personality. We are spending DD's 14th at Disney this year and I have Akershus planned for breakfast and Coral Reef with the divers for dinner. She would have loved to be at CRT on her bday but since we will not be in MK on that day it is not going to happen. :( Also should note DD is not really a girly girl but she loves the princesses. Best of luck to you. :goodvibes:

We are taking our DD15 to Crystal Palace as it is a buffet and she can be picky and that way we all eat what we like. She also likes seeing the characters, even at her age:rotfl2:

:) :) Thanks everyone for all your ideas. I think the Coral Reef sounds like fun. I'll have to google it to maybe find a menu. We like lots of Pastas, steak, and chocolate desserts. Can you tell me "jtlover" where the Crystal Palace is?

Not jtlover but I will answer. :) When you walk into MK you walk down mainstreet and come to the hub right in front of the castle to your left is Crystal Palace. Another good place to go to look for menus and prices is www.allearsnet.com Hope you guys have a great trip. :)

How about California Grill in the Contemporary resort. We took our daughter there for her birthday years ago and she loved it. If you were to go here let them know it's your daughters birthday when you make the ADR.

My DD is only a year older than your daughter.

Of course, as a younger child, she LOVED Chef Mickey's. I'm not so sure that she'd really love a birthday party there at this point in her life, but maybe as a first-time experience, she would. Who knows? :confused3 There are a LOT of little kids a Chef Mickey's and, I know that my DD would not be "cool" with that on her birthday but fine for a "regular" dinner.

At this point, my DD loves the "fancy" places--like Citricos. This is one of her favorite dining spots. She likes getting dessert there and she LOVES the chocolate princess tiara that they give her with dessert everytime she goes! I can only imagine what they might whip up for a birthday. But, I can also see that many kids might night like the frou-frou dining experience either.

You don't say whether or not you will be in any of the parks that day. That makes a difference on where you can go.

Just made ADR for my DD14th at CRT. She is VERY excited. At this age I think they like to have a small amount of "little girl princess pampering". She's even going to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique before it to have her hair done for the MNSSHP that night! I love it that she can still be a "kid" in her teens. Means she's still mine for a little longer:cool1:
