We have booked grand Floridian club level for sept and I'm hearing all the construction chatter and possible monorail issues and I'm worried that for the money I'm spending I might be better off at another monorail location. We love the GF but wouldn't want to have a bad memory because of construction. Ya know. So what is CR club level like or maybe poly? We are celebrating an anniversary and two birthdays and will be needing a birthday cake for the birthday kids so I'd like to be at a hotel that can accommodate those requests. Also is CR cl magic kingdom view rooms super nice or just ok.?
Since our last trip was pretty close to perfect the family is expecting it again and I don't want to disappoint. The kids don't know we are going and won't until the 45 day mark. :cool1:
If I can keep it that long. Haha

Thanks for any advice

I've read many posts of people that have had to deal with construction and for the most part, it really put a damper on their vacations. It's Disney and we're supposed to have a Magical time, right?!?! :) We were just at Beach Club and loved it. Before we went, I read here of construction outside of the rooms-painting, scrapping, power-washing, cranes, etc... and it really upset them. I called the resort directly and they weren't really any help. We had no worries, as it turned out, but I was worried about it none the less!! We've never stayed at GF, Poly, or CR, but have visited all many times. IMO, Poly would be a second choice after GF. To us, CR is a little too modern. Hopefully, others on this post can offer more information as your date gets closer. GF may also have more answers if you contact them directly. Good luck and try not to worry too much!!!! :thumbsup2

I have read reports that the GF construction bothers some, but doesn't bother others. When we stayed at the GF (pre-construction), we used the courtyard pool more than the beach pool, so the construction wouldn't really bother us that much as far as the pool is concerned if we were to stay there during construction (since the construction walls are right behind the beach pool). However, my favorite room view staying RPC is of the beach pool/Poly, so that would bother me as I wouldn't want to be looking out over construction. I've never stayed CL at the Poly or CR so I can't comment on that part, but we do love the Poly, which has alot of loyal followers. I can't speak of the CR as we are booked for our first stay at the end of this year, but that resort has alot of followers as well :).

Also, it is not possible to contact the resort directly. Even though there are numbers listed for the resort itself, you are not actually calling the resort, but rather a call center. The phone is answered by the CMs "thanks for calling such and such resort", but you are speaking to a call center rather than the resort itself ;).

Normal construction hours are 7:00 to 3:30 pm; most people are getting ready to go to breakfast and are in the parks all day and don't even notice it.

I am one of those people that works in construction and I can block it out pretty much. I also enjoy taking a walk in the morning, and talking to some of the guys about the challenges they face doing construction in a very warm climate, as opposed to where I live in the Northeast on the Delmarva Peninsula.

I actually enjoy it.

As the PP stated, you are not calling the resort; you can sent to a CCC where they answer as if they are in the resort. It is impossible to call the resort directly, unless a CM has specifically contacted you and has given you a number for a contact.

Other than that, you are most likely speaking to a person that may not even be on property, especially late in the evening. I discovered that a few years ago, when I called the front desk because I had fallen ill and needed to make arrangements to get transportation to the local clinic.

We stayed at AKL whilst they were building KV. We could hear the noise if we opened the balcony door but not if it was closed. The building work did not start too early maybe about 9 and it had stopped by the evening. If you are planning to have a lot of pool time/resort time then I would think of moving. If however the resort is just somewhere to lay your head then I would go ahead with the GF. Beware of Disney building DVC in your favourite resort, you may well spend a lot more on your trip than planned. We did;)

Changing to CR or Poly won't help because it's the resort monorail that will be down if it happens so they will be effected too. We are booked at Poly for Nov and our plan is to stay put and see what happens. We figure between the boats, buses and be next to the TTC that we should be covered but it is very disappointing to hear these rumors considering we booked Poly because of the monorail.

I thought if we were at CR we could just walk to MK since that's where 75% of our time will be. I hate that the monorail might be down.

Good thinking on your part - and absolutely correct ! And if you are going to be spending most of your time at MK... then that rules out my suggestion to try The Beach Club....

As for The Poly or The Contemporary... I'm one of those people that has never been impressed with The Poly (even though I got married there - at "Sunset Point") and has had The Contemporary as my "first love" ! If you can afford (and get) an "MK-View" in the "Atrium Club", you could well have the time of your life... and accommodations for cake(s) shouldn't be a problem, either.
However, I must tell you that I remember reading somewhere that they were going to be doing "renovations" to some of the "Club-Level" rooms at the Contemporary, also.... So you may want to check into that first, also.... :wizard:

That is true so that might be worth looking into. We are going to stick with Poly since we can take the boats or walk to TTC and hop the monorails there.

you can - you might also try the 1-bedroom villa at BLT - not CL however.

though the problem was still Epcot - on those nights when the MK closed before EPcot - the monrail would stop. taking a bus back to the MK resorts is not fun.

OP, good idea to stay at CR. No way would I want to spend $$$$ on a stay at the GF with the construction and I LOVE GF RPC but will not book it until after the DVC building is finished.
