Where to stay

Having frequented WDW for the last 13 years we are finally taking a trip out to Disneyland.
We have got 3 nights booked in the DVC but was after some ideas on where to spend the remaining 7 nights. Mainly plan on touring the local area, so best place for a central location to work from would be ideal.
Some hotels recommendations would be much appreciated.

I would recommend staying in the Pasadena area. There were a few very nice hotels there like the Westin and was a nice drive to the other areas of the city like Hillywood and Beverly Hills, etc.

What specific local areas where you planning on visiting? Southern California is big so knowing the places you're interested in will help people know which area might be a good place to be centrally located.

We have narrowed it down to either Sheraton Anaheim or Knott's Berry Farm resort.
Anyone stayed at either of these with any info, or anybody elses opinions greatly received on either.

I have read really good reviews on Sheraton Anaheim (nice hotel, nice rooms, nice beds etc. with their own shuttle to Disneyland Resort) but haven't read such good reviews about Knotts Berry Farm Hotel. Have to looked at TripAdvisor? You might find it interesting to read reviews from others on there and you will see what I mean.

You could stay in Anaheim near DLR to go to Knotts.

But where are you going the other six days? It can make a difference because drive times with traffic can get insane.

The question of "what else do you want to see in the local area" is a good one. Are you talking about going to Hollywood, Farmer's Market, Beverly Hills, Universal Studios etc.? If so a place in Los Angeles might make more sense.

If you want to see other things in the Orange County area like Laguna Beach, Knott's Berry Farm, etc. than maybe look at the Residence Inn Maingate. It is next door to the Garden Walk and has a full kitchen that is convenient if eating out gets old and includes breakfast every morning.
