Where to Stay?

Hi all
I am new here and have a quick question if you don't mind.

We are planning to go to DLP in the February school holidays and i have a dilemma and think i need to seek advice from the experts on here.

I have 9 & 4 year old girls who will love it but i need to decide whch hotel of these

Disney Santa Fe
Disney Cheyenne

Or Hotel Kyriad

Anyone give me any opinions on them and advantages/disadvantages about them

Of your choices Cheyenne/Santa Fe are on-site why Kyriad is off site although not far from the parks.

If you are looking for your DD's to have a bit extra then on-site will be a more Disney experience

Santa Fe has a mexican theme while Cheyenne is western. Personally Cheyenne would be my preference

What are the advantages of being on site and do they make the extra expense that staying on site worthwhile?,also what is it like i February with regards opening times and does it get busy at this time of year

I have also read on here that the Free kiddie places for JAN-MAR might not be available in 2008 can anyone shed any light on this ?

Personally if on a budget, I would recommend the Holiday Inn. It has more ameneties than the others mentioned and can often be found cheaper. Staying On site only offers three benefits really - continental breakfast is included, extra magic hours (offering access to the parks for up to 2 additional hours on a Monday, Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday), and the occasional character appearance.

Personally, if you are planning on 4 days or more in a year, then a Dream annual pass staying at the Holiday Inn is the way to go. The AP offers 10% discount on food, 20% discount on souvenirs, free Kir or OJ at table service restaurants, Extra Magic Hours (even when staying off site). Doing it this way, you get a pool, air con and 2 TVs (which the other two do not offer) in a 4 star, and with the discounts could aford to have character breakfasts every morning with the savings (as opposed to staying in a 2 Star).

If you feel you must stay in a Disney hotel, of the 2, the Cheyenne feels more highly themed.

As for Feb, hours are likely to be 10 - 6 (maybe 8). If it's school holidays, it can be busy, but the cold scares some people away. Can't offer any info on the kids free offer - sorry.

When I stayed at the Hotel Kyriad, the breakfast was inclu9ded. And this is a continental breakfast with pleanty of good breakfast food.You also can eat a very good dinner at the hotel. as well. Then again, I went with a bus company, so I'd double check to see if the brreakfast is included. Most hotels in Europe offer this, anyways.

If you're on a budget and you're not to fussy about having a Disney theme, I'd go for Hotel Kyriad. The service there is good, with nice people working there, as well.

The Kyriad has bunk beds wihch i am not so sure of the others. It is often 2nd on the bus drop off so you can usuall get a place in the bus to sit in the morning. They breakfast is often included I have booked for 2 of us to go with expedia.es and paid under 150 pounds for 2 pax with breakfast for next weekend, 3 nights which is a great rate (no passes).
I quiet like to get off site as it helps me relax after a busy day.
I haven't stayed in either Disney Santa Fe or Disney Cheyenne.
They both look very busy as they are big hotels and the queue for check-in can be enormous. (I am inclined to wander about)

Thanks for the comments very useful,we are thinking of the Kyriad but only from a budget point of you.
Does anyone have any ideas if you can book febuary 08 yet because just realised where i live the week i want to go is valentine's weekend so likely to be expensive with flights.
Also which time of the year do you think would be better OCT 07 or FEB 08

The prices for Feb 08 came out about a week ago on official Dis site. We have sent for the new brochure as find it easier to compare prices.

We also looked at Holiday Inn site and got prices from this as well.

We have been looking for March on sites such as Expedia but cant find much availibility yet. Its worth keeping looking though.

We have stayed at Santa Fe twice and liked it- very basic but suited our needs. The only reason we're not staying there again is we have found a cheaper rate at Holiday Inn- def worth checking as I think someone else has mentioned.

Ive never been in Oct or Feb so cant comment from experience but I think Feb would probably be quieter as a lot of people tend to go in Oct for Halloween decorations etc. However this may also mean the park closes earlier so being in an offsite hotel with pool may suit you (Cheyenne and Santa Fe dont have pools -other on site ones do)

You commented about flights being more expensive around Valentines day. We went to Paris this Feb on the weekend after Valentines day and still got a good deal (flight and hotel) from lastminute.com

Hi,

I was at the Santa Fe with my daughter at half term this past February (2007). The hotel was busy but not mobbed, same with the parks. The studios were open 10am to 6pm each day, the main park 10am to 8pm each day.

I booked my flights almost as soon as they came out, last August, for Feb 07. Then waited til nearer the time (in fact, it was after Christmas) to book the hotel.
