Where to stay?

Hi, we are driving down to WDW in 2007 and wanted some suggestions on a good place to stop over on the way. We are 18 hours from WDW, and we'd like to be able to get up around 8 or 9 and have only about 5 hours to get there. We' like a relatively inexpensive place to stay that's easy to find and not a dive. I don't know how to begin to look into hotel options, so I thought I'd call upon my trusty DISers! :)

It would be best if we had suggestions for someplace to stay off of I-95 S.

Any suggestions for where you've stayed or would stay? Thanks in advance!

When we use to drive from NJ we always stayed in Florence, SC. It was not to bad of a drive there and the rest of the way to Orlando. It was an ok area right off 95 a few hotel chains places to grab a quick bite to eat.

:confused3 I dont know if your looking for a Disney resort or not, but I would probably move this to the Resorts board... :confused3

My mother-in-law is driving down from NC to meet us July 1. She is wanting to do the same thing since we are arriving around Noon ourselves. I will try to remember this posting and see if I can help you out after our trip.

If you are driving down on I-75, try stopping in Valdosta, GA. I have been there twice and stayed at the Fairfield Inn both times. We were there because they have a theme park as well that we wanted to try out. The room was clean and just off of the Interstate. Valdosta is about 30 minutes or so from the Florida State Line.

Tip: I was able to get the room on priceline.com at a pretty good rate just in case you are interested.

If you only want about 5 hrs. left to drive to get to WDW, you will probably need to stop somewhere around Savannah, GA or south of it. Savannah has many nice hotels and Paula Deans restaurant, The Lady and Sons, is there also :thumbsup2

I agree 100%. My family always stay in Valdosta at the Hampton Inn of exit 18 & out of the cities we stay at off I75 it's my favorite. This July when we are there (driving again 1st to Clearwater Beach, then WDW) we are staying at the new Hampton Inn of exit 16, which is next to the Wal Mart Super Center & I am looking forward to it.

Depends on what your route will be. Not sure why you would be on I-95 coming from Ohio? Did you specifically want to go to the coast?

To the poster asking if we wanted a Disney resort: Nope, just a good ole fashioned hotel or motel on the way to WDW. Sorry for the confusion.

To Sammie: That was on the AAA trip tik. Is that out of the way?

Thanks everyone for posting!

We drove down to Savannah just to eat at The Lady and Sons last year. Loved it! We stayed at a Hampton Inn right off I-95. It had recently been renovated, so it was pretty nice. I would stay there again if I'm ever in the area.
