Where to stay - POR or Pop

Is there a room discount for Pop or are you just hopeful? I MIGHT do a split stay with POR and Pop.
If you check on Mousesavers.com historical discount chart discounts will be released for those dates.

Thank you so much! I do plan on buying the Canadian tix at 25% off as well.

You're welcome. A split is a good way to save some $, I'd do Pop first then move to POR. I love the mansion section. I'm sad not to be staying at POR next trip but with CAD the way it is I just can't justify the cost. I bought $300 USD last week and it cost me $400 CAD :crazy2:. And I'm doing 2 Disney trips, lol. DL in Sept then WDW in late Nov. so something has to give!!

I am just about to book a 10 day trip to the World end of Nov/beg of Dec. But wow, once I convert to CAD the prices take a huge jump. I am likely going solo so I will be paying 100% for the room. I love POR, have always stayed there but it will be $1400 more than Pop. Has anyone stayed at Pop recently and what did you think? I don't usually spend a lot of time at the resort especially since it will likely be too cold for the pool. I would love your thoughts.

I am also hoping they will offer free dining this year during our dates (my check in date is the Mon after Thanksgiving) so I am really on the fence about taking advantage of the 25% off park tickets as the free dining offer generally requires you to buy a park pass. What would you do?

I'm POR all the way! Stayed there 4 times already! First time in the Mansions and then the other 3 times in Alligator Bayou. It's an amazing resort. :) IF it's going to break the bank I'd go with POP it's also a nice resort! Just different!

We booked our last trip November 2013 and loved the Pop. I couldn't believe the price, plus free dining (and counter service works better for my family. Then we had a 5yo 3yo, and 9month old). We can't stay there anymore unless we book two rooms and I am not doing that. Separate DH and me? No. I want a vacation as a family.

The 25% discount is amazing though! We will likely stay off site, so that is a great way to save some $$

I just modified my trip to a split stay at Pop and POR. I will be at Disney with a roof over my head! How can I not be happy?

Maybe I am just crazy, and will usually always end up at our 'home' hotel of POFQ.
I have herd stories from the wife about the rambunctious kiddos at Pop/ Aoa/ Etc.

Maybe I'm just an old person in a young persons body.. Get off my lawn you youngin's!! LOL :P

My wife and I did POP for our last trip because the price was "right", but honestly, it was a one-and-done experience for us. We spend most of our time at the parks, however, we appreciate (dare I say **need**) a bit of quiet down time in the evenings. We just found POP to be too busy for our tastes. There's nothing wrong with POP per-se, it simply feels more shopping mall-ish than resort-ish. Perhaps my opinion would be different if we had kids in tow, instead of being a pair of curmudgeonly old folk. :)

We're headed back "home" to CSR for our upcoming May trip.

I'm probably the odd one out but we hated Pop. Just not our thing. Too garish. Love Por for many reasons. I like to come back at the end of a crazy park day and decompress. Por offers that for me.

Oh dear. Yes, I might very well regret changing to a split stay but I did switch primarily to get a few days free dining and to also save us some money. I have had a very big vet bill recently so I would like to offset this a bit. Honestly, if our CAD was better, I would have stayed at POR the whole time as I love it there but I am making a compromise. We are two sisters, over 50, no kids. It DOES seem very geared to young families. AND there will be construction. :guilty: We get into WDW late so we only have 4 days at Pop, really. The things I don't do for my dog! (I love him to bits though and he is OK) :dog:

Now I am really second guessing the "free" dining. I think buying the tickets at the Canadian discount will be a better deal so I think I will try to switch to that. And then be done with the changes!

I welcome any more input! Can anyone suggest which building may be best?

Check out the pop century thread in the resort's forum. I'm not sure what buildings are best but you could ask for a lake view if you want a quieter section. We stayed at Pop first trip and loved it. If they didn't have just double beds there I'd have no problem staying again. With just 2 people it would be fine. Plus you can walk over to AOA and eat over there. No hot tubs at Pop though if that's a must have.
