We are driving to WDW for our Dec trip - leaving Sat Dec 19th. We are trying to get into Georgia & Macon looks to be the best place to stop - leaving from near Windsor/Det at 4am getting to Macon around 9 or 10pm with 2.5 hours budgeted for Atlanta traffic & stops (does this sound about right?).

Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay the night? We are a family of 5, but can deal with 2 queen beds (only if it's bookable that way - I know some hotels won't book a 2 bed for 5 people).

:thanks:

I really like Country Inn & Suites and there is one in Macon. I've stayed there twice - once in 2009 and once in 2014. It's not anything fancy but it's pretty inexpensive and perfectly adequate and includes hot breakfast in the cost of the room.

Also, both times we've driven, we've gotten to Atlanta around 8 PM and there was a lot of traffic but it was moving, if that makes sense. The highway wasn't totally backed up or anything. Getting in at 9-10 PM, you shouldn't have too much trouble unless there's an accident or something.

Good luck!!

We drive often stopping any where passed Macon when I cross over the Georgia boarder I stop at the welcome center to get a hotel coupon book

Unless you're dealing with a snowstorm, I think your estimate is conservative. It only takes us about eight or nine hours from our home right outside Cincinnati to Macon. Tack on another five to Windsor, and you're looking at no more than a 14 hour trip. And that's with breaks and Saturday Atlanta traffic.

However, this is December, and there's always the possibility of snow.

14 hours sounds a lot better :). Hopefully border traffic will be light & we can cross quickly. It took us from 4pm on a Fri night until 1:30pm on a Sat in March, so 21.5 hours, from our house to POR with minimal stops & no Atlanta traffic (we went thru at 5am). Snow would definitely throw a monkey wrench in there!
