I was looking at the Breakers Hotel, but some of it looked a little old and run down.. and some of it was ExPeNSiVe!!

Wondering if any of you have other ideas or options close by to stay in...

THanks!

Loved, loved, loved the Kalahari Resort. It is about 10-15 minutes away from Cedar Point, but so worth the trip! We also stayed 2 nights at Cedar Point's water park hotel (I can't remember the name of it), and it was so old and run-down. We couldn't believe how much money we were paying per night to stay in a place that was so nasty!

I know it is A LOT more but we always like staying on property at Hotel Breakers or Sandcastle Suites, or even the cabins at Camper Village. You don't have to pay for parking and you can leave during the day. BUT, we have little ones that can't go all day.

It's actually cheaper for us to go to Disney due to hotel costs, and it's 500 miles further away. The entire Sandusky area is full of run down hotels at ridiculous prices. Our last stay we paid $140 a night at a nasty HOJO, for $300 a week we stay in Orlando at a 2 bedroom condo through Skyauction. The Waterpark hotels are nice, but really don't want to pay upwards of $200 a night at a waterpark to attend an amusement park.

I am struggling with this also. I priced out 3 nights there and it was WAY more expensive than I thought it would be (actually priced out a similiar trip to Disney and it was only $400 more - not including travel costs).

I think we have decided to stay at a hotel not on their property. Sure getting in an hour would be really nice, but..........

Any suggestions for hotels that are close by?

Emily

That is what we found too. We were looking into a long weekend at Cedar Point and the onsite hotels were ridiculously priced and got HORRIBLE reviews. In fact, even the offsite hotels in and around the area were the same -- overpriced with HORRIBLE reviews. We decided to skip Cedar Point this year and go to St. Louis instead. We *may* hit Cedar Point on our way to the East Coast in 2012, but only as a day trip, not to stay overnight.

Depending on what direction you're coming from, the Embassy Suites in Downtown Cleveland (about an hour east of Cedar Point) got decent reviews and was priced at about $109 a night. We decided against it because we're coming from Chicago and would have to overshoot Sandusky by an hour, only to have to circle back each day, but will definitely consider it if we're going to head furthe east the next day.

I haven't gone down there for a weekend in a few years (we're only 3 hours away, so we usually do a daytrip) but I've stayed at several of the hotels that have gotten "horrible" reviews (did Priceline one year) and there was absolutely nothing wrong with our room.

People tend to go online when they had a bad experience and write reviews, but as with everything, take it with a grain of salt.

That said, we've stayed at Great Wolf and really liked it, but we spent Friday night there and then moved to a cheaper hotel for Saturday night (and liked it just fine.)

Well, we have stayed at Kalahari too and LOVED it.

Last year my daughter had a cheer competition in Sandusky and we all stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites. It was surprisingly nice. We got a group rate of only $79 a night, which is awesome. It's certainly nothing fancy like Great Wolf (which I have stayed in and really loved, but GW pricey and the food costs there are outrageous) but you get a clean, basic room and a decent breakfast for free.

They have regular rooms with two double beds, or suites with 2 double beds and a nice sitting room/area with a sleeper sofa. The bathroom was nice and big, too. There is also an indoor pool, spa, and fitness room. Again, nothing fancy but good enough. It's located just down the street from Great Wolf, Kalahari, and Cedar Point. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. You should check it out.

Check out Sawmill Creek in Huron. It's not cheap but it's a nice hotel. Has a restaurant, pool and golf course.

There is a Holiday Inn Express in Vermilion, it's fairly new. It's about 25 minutes east of CP and you can take Rt 6 in and go in the back way, back entrance. It's a prettier drive and not as crowded.

There are little cottages all along the lake you can rent out, I don't know the prices. Some are nice and some are seedy.

Whatever you do, don't speed in Huron.

Rent a cottage in Port Clinton (maybe 20 minutes away)and spend a few days there as well, rent jetskis, etc (and you can go to Put In Bay as well since the Jet Ferry is right there).

Sawmill Creek is super nice (our friends got married there).

You can rent jet skis east of there also, I want to say Cranberry Creek Marina.

I used to work at Sawmill, summer after high school. They seemed to have a higher set of standards, I can't imagine it being rundown like they are saying the Breakers is.

We just booked a family suite for 2 nights in June at Great Wolf Lodge for $111.00. Using promo code EARLY..... We looked at staying onsite but it was just too pricey.....

We stayed here after doing Cedar Point-VERY NICE! We rented the cottages/cabins?? that were right on the lake. We had a deck but no loft area. It was a bit pricey but also very nice and convenient. Please AVOID the Quality Inn Rainwater(they advertise a water park OTB, and a bowling alley) at the corner of the street to CP. It was disgusting!

Every time I've gone to Cedar Point I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Port Clinton,it is like a 15-20 minute drive to the park but being used to paying low prices in Orlando it seemed like many of the hotels closer to the park were old and overpriced. The nicer places like the Great Wolf Lodge, while I would love to stay there and have a full day at the waterpark the trips I made I devoted my time to Cedar Point so it would be pointless if I didn't have the time to spend at the resort. The HI Express at least on my last visit was nice clean and had a good breakfast, all that I need.

What dates did you book to get the $110.00 rate?

I keep getting $127.00 using that code.

Edit: I was looking at the last two weeks in June. The first two weeks are $111.00 per night
